 AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to the appointment of
   the state medicaid director
 
   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. The public health law is amended by adding  a  new  section
 208-a to read as follows:
   §  208-A.  MEDICAID  DIRECTOR.  NOTWITHSTANDING ANY OTHER PROVISION OF
 THIS ARTICLE, THE POSITION OF MEDICAID DIRECTOR SHALL  BE  APPOINTED  BY
 THE GOVERNOR, BY AND WITH THE ADVICE AND CONSENT OF THE SENATE.
   §  2. This act shall take effect on the first of January next succeed-
 ing the date on which it shall have become a  law  and  shall  apply  to
 appointments made on or after such date.
