S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 9926 I N A S S E M B L Y April 26, 2024 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. JACKSON -- read once and referred to the Commit- tee on Election Law AN ACT to amend the election law, in relation to requiring early voting occurs on the Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Tuesdays prior to the election within the early voting period THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Paragraphs (c) and (d) of subdivision 4 of section 8-600 of the election law, paragraph (c) as amended by chapter 781 of the laws of 2021 and paragraph (d) as added by chapter 6 of the laws of 2019, are amended to read as follows: (c) Polls shall be open for early voting for at least eight hours between nine o'clock in the morning and eight o'clock in the evening on each FRIDAY, Saturday, Sunday and [legal holiday] TUESDAY during the early voting period. (d) Nothing in this section shall be construed to prohibit any board of elections from establishing a greater number of hours for voting during the early voting period beyond the number of hours required in this subdivision; PROVIDED HOWEVER, NO BOARD OF ELECTIONS SHALL ESTAB- LISH DAYS WHERE EARLY VOTING IS PERMITTED BESIDES THOSE PERMITTED IN PARAGRAPH (C) OF THIS SUBDIVISION. § 2. This act shall take effect on the first of January next succeed- ing the date on which it shall have become a law. Effective immediately, the addition, amendment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation neces- sary for the implementation of this act on its effective date are authorized to be made and completed on or before such effective date.
