COMMENDING the Frewsburg Lions Club upon the
occasion of celebrating its 75th Anniversary

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those fraternal organizations of high purpose and worthy
accomplishment whose endeavors have faithfully served the welfare of the
citizens of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Frewsburg Lions Club upon the occasion of celebrating its
75th Anniversary; and

WHEREAS, The Frewsburg Lions Club was chartered in 1945 by the
International Association of Lions Clubs; the first meeting of this
chapter was held on May 28, 1945; and

WHEREAS, In accordance with the Lions motto of "We Serve," the Lions
Club is composed of volunteers dedicated to serving others and making
their community a better place to live; and

WHEREAS, Assisting the blind and vision impaired was the first major
emphasis of Lions International, and became the first cause of which the
Frewsburg Lions Club focused, and still largely focuses on today; and

WHEREAS, The Frewsburg Lions Club has supported the Buffalo Eye
Bank, distributed eye donor cards to the public, held annual clinics for
glaucoma screening, collected used eyeglasses for recycling and
distribution worldwide, worked with the Chautauqua Blind Association for
eye screening of pre-school and school children, and assisted those in
financial need following eye surgeries with copays and uninsured medical
expenses; and

WHEREAS, In the 1940s, the Frewsburg Lions Club sought to protect
the environment by first placing large, colorful trash barrels in
various Frewsburg locations; later, the Lions Club participated in
Environment Day with village cleanup; for several years, the Frewsburg
Lions have engaged in the New York State Adopt-A-Highway program with
semi-annual roadside cleanup of U.S. Route 62; and

WHEREAS, In great service to the youth of their community, the
Frewsburg Lions Club has provided countless scholarships to high school
seniors from 1972 to present day; in 1997, these Lions sponsored the
organization of the Frewsburg Leo Club for students in grades 7-12,
whose mission parallels that of the Lions Club through completion of
community service projects; and

WHEREAS, Projects of the Frewsburg Lions Club include the creation
of two standard frameworks that were erected to hold highway signs of
various organizations, serving as umpires for Little League baseball
games, resodding the Little League field, the beautification of the Town
Park which included creation of a sliding hill, planting 32 shade trees,

clearing the park perimeter, and planting annual flowers at the base of
the Town Park sign; and

WHEREAS, The Frewsburg Lions Club has provided financial support for
the Frewsburg Food Pantry, Fire Department, Myers Memorial Library, and
the Relief Zone local youth center; each December, the Frewsburg Lions
ring the bell for the Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign; and

WHEREAS, Beyond their community, the Frewsburg Lions Club has
participated in multiple district and Lions Club International
fundraising campaigns to raise funds for services and disaster relief
worldwide; 100% of the Lions Club net proceeds from fundraisers are
dedicated to serving the public or for charitable organizations; and

WHEREAS, The Frewsburg Lions Club currently has 29 dedicated
members, and is welcoming more volunteers to serve for the benefit of
the community at large; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Frewsburg Lions Club upon the occasion of celebrating its
75th Anniversary; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Frewsburg Lions Club.
