COMMENDING Sabrina Guo upon the occasion of being
named a 2023 United States Presidential Scholar

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor the
achievements of its young citizens and leaders of tomorrow, whose
character and accomplishments exemplify the ideals and values cherished
by this great State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Sabrina Guo upon the occasion of being named a 2023 United
States Presidential Scholar; and

WHEREAS, The United States Presidential Scholar program has honored
more than 8,000 of the Nation's top students since its inception in
1964; of the 3.7 million students expected to graduate high school this
year, only about 5,000 students qualified for this honor; and

WHEREAS, Sabrina Guo, a student at Syosset High School, was
recognized as a Presidential Scholar, one of the Nation's highest honors
for high school students; and

WHEREAS, A motivated individual, Sabrina Guo founded Girl Pride
International, a global non-profit that uplifts socioeconomically
disadvantaged, marginalized, refugee, and migrant girls through
advocacy, education, leadership, and material support; and

WHEREAS, Passionate about helping others, during the Covid-19
Pandemic Sabrina Guo founded Long Island Laboring Against Covid-19, or
LILAC, a relief organization that donates personal protective equipment,
meals and funds while uplifting at-risk communities, specifically aiding
disproportionately affected areas whose residents are predominantly
people of color; and

WHEREAS, Academically, Sabrina Guo has distinguished herself as a
young woman of superlative ability, talent, and maturity, establishing
standards of excellence and achievement, purposefulness of life, and
responsibility rarely achieved in youthful years; and

WHEREAS, As a testament to her work ethic and academic abilities,
Sabrina Guo has been named a 2023 Coca-Cola Scholar along with several
other academic awards and plans to attend Yale University, where she
will concentrate on Pre-Law studies at the intersection of law,
business, education, and public policy; and

WHEREAS, Sabrina Guo of Syosset High School was one of just 161
seniors across the country to be recognized with this esteemed honor for
her outstanding academic achievement, artistic excellence, leadership,
citizenship and service as well as contribution to her school and
community; and

WHEREAS, An outstanding role model for her classmates, Sabrina Guo
has truly brought honor to her family, school, and community; and


WHEREAS, Sabrina Guo may stand with pride in her achievements,
experiencing the satisfaction of her labors and the joy of her
accomplishments, eager to face the challenge of new experiences as she
continues her education; and

WHEREAS, Sabrina Guo represents the potential inherent in our most
precious resource, our youth; this Legislative Body is pleased to honor
this young woman, recognizing her achievements and the promise of her
future; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Sabrina Guo upon the occasion of being named a 2023 United
States Presidential Scholar; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Sabrina Guo.
