Senate Resolution No. 1327

        COMMENDING  Edward F. Malinowski posthumously upon
        the occasion of his designation as  recipient  of  a
        Liberty  Medal,  the  highest honor bestowed upon an
        individual by the New York State Senate
 
  WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of  New  York,
who  have  served  so  valiantly  and  honorably  in  wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of  peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
 
  WHEREAS,  This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Edward F.
Malinowski  posthumously  upon  the  occasion  of  his  designation   as
recipient  of  a  Liberty  Medal,  the  highest  honor  bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate, to be presented at the Saratoga
County Honor a Deceased Veteran Ceremony on Tuesday, June 20,  2023,  in
Ballston Spa, New York; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
Resolution and is  awarded  to  individuals  who  have  merited  special
commendation  for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and
 
  WHEREAS, Edward F. Malinowski was born  on  February  17,  1924,  to
Joseph  and  Mary Malinowski; after graduating from Kring Bush Oppenheim
High School in St. Johnsville, New York, he studied  diesel  and  engine
maintenance and repair at the State University of New York; and
 
  WHEREAS, Edward F. Malinowski entered into the United States Army on
February  10,  1943,  and  proudly served his country as an infantryman,
ammo bearer for heavy mortars, and truck driver with the 314th  Infantry
Regiment 79th Infantry Division during World War II; and
 
  WHEREAS,  During  his service, Edward F. Malinowski's unit landed at
Utah Beach and fought all through France, and into  Germany;  he  mostly
drove  enemy  captured  trucks  loaded  with prisoners, replacements and
supplies and ran truck convoys along the famous Red Ball  Express  route
among others; and
 
  WHEREAS,  For  his courageous service during World War II, Edward F.
Malinowski was awarded  the  European  African  Middle  Eastern  Service
Medal,  the  Good  Conduct  Medal,  World  War  II Victory Medal and the
American Service Medal; and
 
  WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his military service on  January  3,
1946,  with  the  rank  of  Private  First  Class,  Edward F. Malinowski
returned to his hometown and married the love of his  life,  the  former
Sophie  Pingelski,  on  June  18,  1949,  and together, they raised four
children; and
 
  WHEREAS, Edward F. Malinowski worked for the Waterford Department of
Transportation, retiring in 1989,  after  numerous  years  of  dedicated
service; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Active in his community, Edward F. Malinowski was a member
of the Halfmoon American Legion Mohawk Post and the Baldwin  Hunt  Club;
and
 
  WHEREAS,  Edward  F. Malinowski died on June 23, 1995, at the age of
71; and
 
  WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at  home  and  abroad,
Edward  F.  Malinowski  demonstrated his love for his country and merits
forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and
 
  WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be  recognized,  commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Edward F. Malinowski  posthumously  upon  the  occasion  of  his
designation  as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed
upon an individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to the family of Edward F. Malinowski.
