HONORING Scott D. McNamara upon the occasion of
his retirement after 26 years of distinguished
service as Oneida County's District Attorney

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those
individuals whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to
enhance the stature of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Scott D. McNamara upon the occasion of his retirement after 26 years of
distinguished service as Oneida County's District Attorney; and

WHEREAS, For almost three decades, Scott D. McNamara rendered
faithful, conscientious, and valuable service to Oneida County, New
York; and

WHEREAS, In the faithful performance of his duties and
responsibilities, Scott D. McNamara's ongoing efforts and notable
achievements have significantly contributed to bettering the quality of
life in his community; and

WHEREAS, A Deansboro, New York native, Scott D. McNamara is a
graduate of Waterville Central School, Syracuse University, and Vermont
Law School; and

WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his studies, in 1992, Scott D.
McNamara began his illustrious career as an Assistant District Attorney
in Oneida County; and

WHEREAS, Scott D. McNamara worked as an Assistant District Attorney
for 14 and a half years before serving as District Attorney; prior to
that, he ran his own practice in the Albany area before returning to the
county he had grown up in; and

WHEREAS, Scott D. McNamara was first elected as Oneida County
District Attorney in November of 2007 and was re-elected in 2019; his
tenure has included the establishment of an Economic Crime Unit, a
Conviction Integrity Unit, and he has also appointed a liaison to
improve communication between his staff and community members; and

WHEREAS, In 2015, District Attorney Scott D. McNamara was appointed
to the Commission on Forensic Science and Establishment of DNA
Identification Index; the 13-member body was responsible for creating
accreditation standards for forensic labs, with an emphasis on making
them effective, efficient, reliable and accurate; and

WHEREAS, In addition, Scott D. McNamara was responsible for
promoting cooperation and coordination between labs and the criminal
justice system; the commission also established policy for the DNA
Identification Index, which was first established in 1999; and

WHEREAS, In his capacity as Oneida County's District Attorney, Scott
D. McNamara served with loyalty, honor and distinction; and

WHEREAS, In his official acts, Scott D. McNamara was governed by a
keen sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems;
and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Scott D. McNamara upon the occasion of his retirement after 26
years of distinguished service as Oneida County's District Attorney; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Scott D. McNamara.
