COMMEMORATING the 60th Anniversary of Woods Valley
Ski Area in Westernville, New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the quality
of life of the citizens of the State of New York is greatly enriched by
the availability of exceptional recreational facilities; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 60th Anniversary of Woods Valley Ski Area in
Westernville, New York, celebrated on opening day on Saturday, December
2, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Celebrations planned for Woods Valley Ski Area's 60th year
of operation include a firework display on January 6, 2024 and the
opening of their newly renovated facility; and

WHEREAS, Born out of a passion for the sport of skiing, Woods Valley
Ski Area was built on the site of Dopps Run on January 6, 1965, with
initial plans being in December 1964; using just a rope tow, a J-bar,
and a T-bar, the area offered skiing for the beginner, advanced, and
expert skier; and

WHEREAS, Coming a long way from its roots as changes in the industry
and at the mountain have changed in the last 60 years, Woods Valley Ski
Area has two double chairlifts, two carpet lifts, several additions to
our base lodge, state-of-the-art snowmaking and grooming, extensive
lighting for night skiing and riding, three terrain parks and a new Snow
Tubing area have all been added; and

WHEREAS, Last season, Woods Valley Ski Area enhanced the beginner
skier/snowboarders experience with a new Sun Kid Wonder Carpet, or
conveyor lift, created a new website, added Low-Energy snowmaking
equipment, and expanded retail offerings; dedicated to serving their
consumers, they also added a new Carousel, rental equipment, and a new
Tubing Park; and

WHEREAS, To ensure even more snow coverage, the facility has added
more than 4,000 feet of new snowmaking pipe and over 20 new snow guns;
Woods Valley Ski Area's friendly staff, well-groomed trails, and clean
and comfortable lodge have remained consistent throughout the years; and

WHEREAS, The success of Woods Valley Ski Area over the years is in
direct correlation to the efforts of its President, Tim Woods, and
previous generations and staff, whose involvement is, and always has
been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled
enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all
endeavors on behalf of this institution and the community it serves; and

WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body
acknowledges the success of the Woods Valley Ski Area and recognizes its
contributions to the local and State economies, fully confident that it

will continue to enjoy the sparkling successes it has experienced thus
far; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 60th Anniversary of Woods Valley Ski Area in
Westernville, New York; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to President, Tim Woods, Woods Valley Ski Area.
