MOURNING the death of Harriet Marlene Rock
Gooding, distinguished citizen and dedicated member
of her community
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay proper
tribute to individuals of great character whose lives exemplify the
highest ideals of humanity; and
WHEREAS, Harriet Marlene Rock Gooding of Brooklyn, New York, died on
Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at the age of 66; and
WHEREAS, Harriet Marlene Rock Gooding was a warm and kind woman who
truly lived life to the fullest; and
WHEREAS, Harriet Marlene Rock Gooding was a cherished daughter;
loving wife; devoted mother, grandmother, and godmother; and caring
sister and aunt; she was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand
to one of her treasured family members or friends; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by her mother, Gloria Rock Hughes, and husband,
John Gooding, Harriet Marlene Rock Gooding is survived by her two sons,
Kerron Rock and Shane Gooding; one granddaughter, Amiah Gooding; one
daughter-in-law, Channel Isidore; five sisters, Margaret Fagan, Danielle
Casimir, Juliet Charles, Roslyn Jones and Michele Lashley; two brothers,
Earle Charles and David Cadogan; and three godchildren, Jamila Cometa,
Karima Fuentes and Randi Tescum; and
WHEREAS, Harriet Marlene Rock Gooding was also survived by five
aunts, Marva Lewis, Emlyn Pilgrim, Linda Mathias, Sheila Murrell and
Hyacinth Mullin; numerous cousins, Kerry, Shemise, Hakeem, Railin and
Paige Worrell; Ian Rock; Marilyn and Dwayne Francis; Phyllis Harvey;
Harriet and Rhonda Johnson; Ivor Boyce; Derrick Rock; Carmichael, Isaac
and Phyllis Jones; Jocelyn, Hamilton, Jarret, Jahswad, Franklyn, Kim,
Kianna, Ellyn and Antoinette Rock; Hyacinth Bourne; Marina, Andrew, and
Mark Jemmott; Jerry, Tony, Jaelyn, and Taegyn Babb; and Rawle, Coleen,
and Natasha Agard; as well as many others; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable woman was also related to the Agard,
Austin, Boyce, Burnett, Collymore, Greaves, Griffith, Reid and Yearwood
families; and friend to Deshanna Scott, Damion Harris, Mayorie Clue,
Andy Spencer, Chantel Isidore, Viola Taylor, Linda Taylor-Roberts,
Bashkim Aruci, Marilyn Nelson, Erick Daly, Devin Casimir, Kemp Moriah,
Stacy White, Shavon Thompson and a multitude of others who will long
cherish her memory; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Harriet Marlene Rock Gooding leaves behind a legacy which
will long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting
memory to all she served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Harriet Marlene Rock Gooding, distinguished citizen
and dedicated member of her community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Harriet Marlene Rock Gooding.
