HONORING Arnold Galin of Rome, New York upon the
occasion of his special recognition for 50 years of
service to Rome Community Theater
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve
the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration
and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Arnold Galin has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Arnold Galin of Rome, New York upon the occasion of his special
recognition for 50 years of service to Rome Community Theater; and
WHEREAS, Born in the Bronx in New York, New York, Arnold Galin moved
to Rome, New York to pursue a career with BOCES in the early 1970s;
after attending SUNY Albany, where he developed a love for acting, he
aspired to become involved in community theater in the Rome area; and
WHEREAS, Whether he's working backstage, building sets, or learning
all different aspects of working with theatrical productions, Arnold
Galin has a strong passion for the arts; he started working with Rome
Community Theater in the 1970s and started auditioning within a few
years and his first part was a small role in "Lion in Winter" in 1975,
followed by a larger role in "A Thousand Clowns" in 1976; and
WHEREAS, Inspired by Rome Community Theater, Arnold Galin started
directing with "Charley's Aunt" in 1978; in addition, he served as the
troupe's photographer and grant writer, introduced Rome Community
Theater to automated ticketing, and helped bring in money for better
curtains and other theater facelifts, including some acting and
directing workshops over the years; and
WHEREAS, Passionate about acting and enticed with the idea of "being
someone else" while performing, Arnold Galin has either acted in or
directed 58 plays for Rome Community Theater; he also served as the Rome
Free Academy drama club advisor from 1980 to 2015, directing numerous
plays and musicals over the decades; and
WHEREAS, Arnold Galin has joined an exciting new venture to help
grow a brand new theater program called the Black Bear Players of View
in Old Forge, New York; his new project will be directing "Almost Maine"
at the Views Arts Center in Old Forge this spring, with auditions
beginning in March; and
WHEREAS, The only art center in the lower Adirondacks that is open
year-round, The View Arts Center is the perfect space for the Black Bear
Players to piece together their stage productions; driven by the
community and led by Arnold Galin, there is much talent in the Rome area
and this project allows like-minded people to come together and enjoy
the arts; and
WHEREAS, Arnold Galin has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Arnold Galin has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Arnold Galin has displayed
throughout his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Arnold Galin of Rome, New York upon the occasion of his special
recognition for 50 years of service to Rome Community Theater; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Arnold Galin and Rome Community Theater.
