CONGRATULATING Mia Collins of Ballston Spa High
School upon the occasion of capturing the 2024
NYSPHSAA Girls Wrestling Championship title in the
132-pound Division on January 26, 2024

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Mia
Collins, who captured the 2024 NYSPHSAA Girls Wrestling Championship
title in the 132-pound Division at the SRC Arena and Events Center in
Syracuse on Friday, January 26, 2024; and

WHEREAS, To the praise and applause of her excited fans, Mia Collins
won the state title by fall over top-seeded Alexa Doxey of Newfane High
School; and

WHEREAS, Utilizing outstanding talent and exceptional team play, Mia
Collins capped off a spectacular season with an undefeated regular
season record of 10-0, along with being the first New York State Girls
Wrestling Champion from Ballston Spa, a trailblazer for many more
talented young ladies to follow; and

WHEREAS, Prior to her finals match, Mia Collins recorded a 38-second
pin in her first match; in her quarterfinal, she secured a reversal with
17 seconds remaining to win a 6-4 decision, and then put together a
second-period pin in the semifinals; and

WHEREAS, Earlier in the month of January 2024, Mia Collins captured
the Eastern States Classic title at 132 pounds with a 7-0 championship
decision over Jaida Macaluso of Minisink Valley; and

WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by this scholar athlete is
due in great part to the efforts of a great team of coaches, skilled and
inspirational tutors, respected for their ability to develop potential
into excellence; and

WHEREAS, In a sport such as wrestling, which demands athletic
prowess, speed and agility, Head Coach Jacob Warren, and Assistant Coach
Colby Harblin worked hard to hone the skills of this champion, teaching
this outstanding athlete lessons which will prove invaluable both on and
off the mat; and

WHEREAS, In light of her recent accomplishments, Mia Collins has
garnered a national ranking of eighth in her weight class, and though

only a junior; she finished third at the Fargo Nationals in North
Dakota; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Mia Collins of Ballston Spa High School upon the occasion
of capturing the NYSPHSAA Girls Wrestling Championship title in the
132-pound Division on January 26, 2024; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Mia Collins; the aforementioned coaches; Director of
Physical Education, Health, & Athletics Dave Sunkes; Principal Matthew
Robinson; and Superintendent Gianleo Duca.
