HONORING Tony Cerreto upon the occasion of his
retirement as Village Attorney after 28 years of
distinguished service to the Village of Port Chester

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those
individuals whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to
enhance the stature of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Anthony "Tony" Marcus Cerreto upon the occasion of his retirement as
Village Attorney after 28 years of distinguished service to the Village
of Port Chester; this momentous occasion will be celebrated at a
retirement party at T&J's Restaurant in Port Chester, New York on
Thursday, February 22, 2024; and

WHEREAS, For the past 28 years, Tony rendered faithful,
conscientious, and valuable service to the Village of Port Chester; and

WHEREAS, In his capacity as Village Attorney, Tony served with
loyalty, honor and distinction; and

WHEREAS, Tony was born on June 4, 1957, in Willimantic, Connecticut,
the oldest of the two children of Vincent and Frances Cerreto; and

WHEREAS, A 1980 graduate, cum laude, of the University of
Connecticut, Storrs, majoring in political science, Tony interned with
the Connecticut State Legislature and was a political reporter for the
Connecticut Daily Campus; he was a resident of the Intentional
Democratic Community (IDC), a self-governing dormitory at the college;
and

WHEREAS, Tony was a 1984 graduate of Suffolk University Law School
in Boston, Massachusetts; he was the co-recipient of the Best Brief for
the First Year Moot Court Competition and awarded an American
Jurisprudence Book Prize; he served as a law clerk for the Massachusetts
Department of Labor and Industries and the Town Attorney of the Town of
Windham, Connecticut; and

WHEREAS, Upon graduating from law school, Tony first worked from
1984 to 1985 as an Associate Attorney for the law firm of Asselin &
Associates, practicing in personal injury and workers compensation law
in Boston; and

WHEREAS, Tony then relocated to New York and worked from 1985 to
1988 as an Associate Attorney for the law firm Hoffman, Silverberg,
Wachtell & Koster in White Plains, New York, practicing in workers
compensation, general practice, and municipal law; the firm served as
Town Attorney to the Town of Mamaroneck; he would assist the partners
who were counsel to the Town Board, Planning Board and Zoning Board of
Appeals; and

WHEREAS, Working for the City of Mount Vernon from 1988 to 1995,
Tony served as Assistant Corporation Counsel practicing in all areas of
municipal law; originally appointed Fourth Assistant Corporation
Counsel, he was successively promoted to First Assistant Corporation
Counsel in the deputy position; and

WHEREAS, Since August 1995, Tony has been employed as the Village
Attorney for the Village of Port Chester, New York, continuing his
practice in all areas of municipal law; during this time, he has also
served as Assistant Village Manager and Administrative Director of the
Port Chester Industrial Development Agency; and

WHEREAS, In 2003, Tony held the position of Special Zoning Counsel
for the Town of Carmel, New York; in 2010, he received a Master of
Public Administration degree; and

WHEREAS, In all his official acts, Tony was governed by a keen sense
of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems; and

WHEREAS, Into his retirement, Tony will remain busy gardening,
building an HO model railroad layout, getting his amateur radio license,
singing and playing guitar, hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, avidly
reading, and exploring a certificate or degree program in a
long-distance learning format; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Veronica Gardner,
son, Jeffrey, and daughters, Katerina and Arianna, all of whom feel
privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his plentiful
achievements; and

WHEREAS, During his tenure with the Village of Port Chester, Tony
earned the admiration, esteem, and affection of his colleagues; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Anthony "Tony" Marcus Cerreto upon the occasion of his retirement
after 28 years of distinguished service to the Village of Port Chester;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Anthony Marcus Cerreto.
