CONGRATULATING Eleanor Cunningham upon the
occasion of celebrating her 100th Birthday
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commemorate
and recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Eleanor Cunningham upon the occasion of her 100th Birthday
on Monday, March 4, 2024; and
WHEREAS, Eleanor Randall was born to George and Delora Randall in
Ogdensburg, New York, on March 4, 1924; and
WHEREAS, Spending her childhood during the Great Depression, Eleanor
Randall enjoyed spending time on the nearby St. Lawrence River, fishing,
swimming, and frogging with her father; as a teenager, she indulged her
passion for music and learned to play the ukulele; prior to her
marriage, she was employed by Cleveland Container in Ogdensburg; and
WHEREAS, In 1948, Eleanor Randall married Daniel Cunningham; the
couple were blessed with four daughters, Karen, Patricia, Pamela, and
Darcy; from this union, the family extended to include nine
grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, After her husband's death in 1978, Eleanor Cunningham was
employed as a library clerk at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center where
she later retired; throughout that decade, she was a member of the CB
Radio Club; and
WHEREAS, Eleanor Cunningham's hobbies have been playing bingo,
collecting antiques, and using modern technology; surfing the internet
and spending time on Facebook are two pastimes she has truly enjoyed;
and
WHEREAS, As an active constituent in her community, Eleanor
Cunningham has been a member of Notre Dame Church; and
WHEREAS, Additionally, Eleanor Cunningham has been physically
active, participating in tai chi into her 70s and playing tennis with
her youngest grandchild in her 80s; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her century-long life, Eleanor Cunningham has
inspired and enhanced the lives of her beloved family and friends; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian has experienced the incredible
joys and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the
stamina and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, Eleanor Cunningham has enriched the lives of those around
her through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the
vibrant charm and infinite wisdom which come only from a fullness of
years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have
witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments, and
outstanding achievements of this Nation during the last century, while
themselves contributing to the growth and excellence of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Eleanor Cunningham upon the occasion of celebrating her
100th Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Eleanor Cunningham.
