CONGRATULATING Elle Hutton of Columbia High School
upon the occasion of capturing the 2024 NYSPHSAA
Girls Wrestling Championship for the 185-pound
weight class on January 26, 2024

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Elle
Hutton upon the occasion of capturing the 2024 NYSPHSAA Girls Wrestling
Championship for the 185-pound weight class, held on Friday, January 26,
2024, at SRC Arena, Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, New York;
and

WHEREAS, Exemplifying outstanding talent, Elle Hutton won all four
of the matches in her weight class to become the first female wrestling
state champion of Columbia High School as a junior; and

WHEREAS, In the title match against Carmel High School's Alexia
Manguel, Elle Hutton displayed remarkable talent as she turned the match
around in the second period to register a pin at 3:55 to claim the
championship and defeat her opponent; and

WHEREAS, As a testament to her incredible athleticism, Elle Hutton
was named Spectrum Athlete of the Week; and

WHEREAS, Proudly donning the school's colors of blue and white,
family, friends, and the community at large loyally and enthusiastically
supported Elle Hutton throughout her journey as she ended her season
with an impressive 26-3 record; and

WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by this scholar athlete is
due in great part to the efforts of a great team of coaches, skilled and
inspirational tutors, respected for their ability to develop potential
into excellence; and

WHEREAS, In a sport such as wrestling, which demands athletic
prowess, speed and agility, Girls Wrestling Coaches Mike Merhige and Tim
Satalino, have worked hard to hone the skills of this champion, teaching
this outstanding athlete lessons which will prove invaluable both on and
off the mat; and

WHEREAS, In light of her recent accomplishments, Elle Hutton has
brought honor and just pride to her school and community on the local,
and State level; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Elle Hutton and Coaches Mike Merhige and Tim Satalino of
Columbia High School upon the occasion of capturing the 2024 NYSPHSAA
Girls Wrestling Championship for the 185-pound weight class on January
26, 2024; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Elle Hutton and Coaches Mike Merhige and Tim Satalino of
Columbia High School.
