COMMEMORATING the Centennial Anniversary of Lake
Avenue Elementary School in Saratoga Springs, New
York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those institutions of commitment and high achievement whose
purpose and endeavor have been dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in
the education of the youth of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Lake Avenue Elementary School in
Saratoga Springs, New York; and
WHEREAS, Lake Avenue Elementary School, established in 1924, has
remained unwavering in its commitment to educating young children
garnering a Blue-Ribbon School Designation on three different occasions;
and
WHEREAS, Located at 126 Lake Avenue in Saratoga Springs and built in
1923, the school serves 395 students in grades K-5, emphasizing a warm
welcome and sense of belonging in supporting each student's personal
pathway for learning; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception, multiple generations of families have
come to Lake Avenue Elementary School to embark on their educational
journeys; and
WHEREAS, Lake Avenue School boasts a Building Leadership Team made
up of parents, guardians and elementary school staff who meet throughout
the year to collaboratively discuss topics that are important to the
school; and
WHEREAS, Lake Avenue School is the only school in its respective
district to provide an Annual Outdoor Education Program in which all 5th
graders stay two nights and three days, taking special outdoor classes
at campgrounds in the Adirondacks, a Drama Club in which children in
3rd-5th grade can learn to performance arts and stage crew skills, and a
STEM Science Lab for all grades; and
WHEREAS, To celebrate their many years of academic excellence, the
school will hold a Centennial Celebration for both current Lake Avenue
students, families and alumni on Saturday, May 4, 2024; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of its Principal, Elizabeth
Carroll and District Superintendent Michael Patton, Lake Avenue
Elementary School has been steadfast in the District's mission to
empower all learners in an engaging, collaborative environment to
discover their personal pathways to the future; and
WHEREAS, The school's curriculum includes a Community Garden and
Food Lab for all grades offering a unique, multi-sensory, inquiry-based
educational opportunity which promotes a "locally grown" concept to food
production; and
WHEREAS, Steeped in a proud and distinguished history, Lake Avenue
Elementary School may look back with pride upon its humble beginnings,
find just satisfaction in its purposeful growth and hold true of purpose
in its commitment to serving the educational needs of the citizens of
Saratoga County and beyond; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the Centennial Anniversary of Lake Avenue Elementary School
in Saratoga Springs, noting the propriety of its goals, the constancy of
its commitment, and the significance of its accomplishments in preparing
the youth of today and leaders of tomorrow; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Lake Avenue Elementary School Principal Elizabeth
Carroll, Saratoga Springs City School District Superintendent Michael
Patton, and School Board Members.
