MOURNING the untimely death and paying tribute to
the life and heroic service of Officer Michael E.
Jensen who died in the line of duty on April 14,
2024

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to convey its
grateful appreciation and heartfelt regret in recognition of the loss of
a courageous and exemplary Syracuse Police Officer who dedicated his
purposeful life and career in faithful service to his family and to the
residents of Syracuse, New York, and its surrounding communities; and

WHEREAS, It is with profound sadness that this Legislative Body
records the tragic and untimely death of Officer Michael E. Jensen, who
made the ultimate sacrifice while faithfully executing his
responsibilities to serve and protect his community on Sunday, April 14,
2024; he was twenty-nine; and

WHEREAS, A two-and-a-half-year member of the Syracuse Police
Department, Officer Michael E. Jensen exemplified what it truly means to
give of himself in providing vital police services in keeping with the
noble mission of the Syracuse Police Department; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Officer Michael E. Jensen was
extremely proud to wear the Syracuse Police Department badge, and help
serve and protect the City he was so proud of; and

WHEREAS, An ambitious and hardworking young man, Officer Michael E.
Jensen graduated from the Syracuse Regional Police Academy in August of
2022, before joining the ranks of the Syracuse Police Department and
serving honorably in the Patrol Division on the Third Platoon throughout
his career; and

WHEREAS, Officer Michael E. Jensen served the Syracuse Police
Department with dedication, loyalty, and compassion, earning the
admiration, affection, and esteem of his brothers and sisters in blue;
and,

WHEREAS, A stalwart model of exemplary law enforcement service,
Officer Michael E. Jensen was the proud recipient of the Officer of the
Month award in December of 2023; and

WHEREAS, A devoted son, brother and officer, Officer Michael E.
Jensen loved spending time with his family; he is survived by his
parents, Paul and Michelle; sister, Shelli; as well as numerous other
relatives and friends; and

WHEREAS, Officer Michael E. Jensen's infinite selflessness and
benevolence will shine on through his family's vivid and happy memories;
his life of service and strength will forever serve as a beacon of love,
light and hope to the countless lives he touched; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Officer Michael E. Jensen leaves behind a legacy which will

long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory
to all who were privileged to have known and loved such an amazing man;
he will be deeply missed and truly merits the grateful tribute of this
Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the untimely death of Officer Michael E. Jensen, and to express
its deepest condolences to his family; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Officer Michael E. Jensen.
