CONGRATULATING William Salzillo, Professor of Fine
Arts, upon the occasion of his retirement after 51
years of distinguished service to Hamilton College
in Clinton, New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
the significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed
residents of this noble Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate William Salzillo, Professor of Fine Arts, upon the occasion
of his retirement after 51 years of distinguished service to Hamilton
College in Clinton, New York; and

WHEREAS, William Salzillo, of Utica, New York, obtained an Artium
Baccalaureus degree from Middlebury College, a Bachelor of Fine Arts
degree from Rhode Island School of Design, and a Master of Fine Arts
degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art; and

WHEREAS, Painter William Salzillo began his teaching career at
Kirkland College in 1973; in 1978, the accomplished artist joined the
faculty of Hamilton College when both Clinton, New York, institutions
merged; and

WHEREAS, During his 51 years in education, William Salzillo has
instructed countless students in drawing, design, and painting; and

WHEREAS, From 1982-1992, William Salzillo served as the founding
Director of the Emerson Gallery at Hamilton College; the National
Academy of Design and the 14 Sculptors Gallery in New York City, the
Everson Museum in Syracuse, and the Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute in
Utica have exhibited his work; his most recent works explore the
landscapes of California, the American Southwest, and Italy; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that, when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Rare, indeed, is the occurrence of such a compassionate
blending of strength and commitment as that demonstrated by William
Salzillo over a lifetime of sacrifice and dedication to others; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate William Salzillo, Professor of Fine Arts, upon the occasion
of his retirement after 51 years of distinguished service to Hamilton
College in Clinton, New York, and to wish him well in all his future
endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to William Salzillo.
