CONGRATULATING Herman Lehman upon the occasion of
his retirement after 28 years of dedicated service
to Hamilton College

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and
character whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in this
great State; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate
Herman Lehman upon the occasion of his retirement after 28 years of
dedicated service to Hamilton College; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Clinton, New York, Herman Lehman began his
illustrious career with Hamilton College in 1996; and

WHEREAS, As a Professor of Biology, Herman Lehman's research is
focused on the development and function of neurotransmitters;
neurotransmitters are molecules released by neurons and mediate
communication throughout the nervous system; thus, the proper expression
and maintenance of neurotransmitter levels is a critical, yet largely
unknown, aspect of the metabolism of the neuron; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure, Herman Lehman has taught several
courses, including Fundamentals and Frontiers, General Biology: Cells to
Ecosystems, Introduction to Public Health, and Cellular Neurobiology;
and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, active within Hamilton College, this esteemed
professor has given tirelessly of his time and energies as: Neuroscience
Program chair; Biology Department chair (2006-2012); Levitt Center,
Director of Public Health and Well-Being Program; Neuroscience Program
Committee, past chair and member; Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Program Committee, member; Higher Educational Opportunity Program
Committee, member; Education Studies Program Committee, member; Senior
Fellowship Director; Exploration Adventure leader; Global Heath faculty
advisor; Academic liaison to Men's Baseball; Academic liaison to Men's
Hockey; and Biology Department chair (2006-2012); and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
profession, Herman Lehman is a member of the Society for Neuroscience,
Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology (SICB), the American
Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and Faculty for
Undergraduate Neuroscience (FUN); and

WHEREAS, Additionally, Herman Lehman has been applying his
professional academic interest in public health to the greater good as a
volunteer COVID-19 contact tracer for Oneida County; and

WHEREAS, A caring, competent, and committed leader, Herman Lehman's
character and integrity are the hallmarks of his life and work as an
educational leader, a community volunteer and as a person; and

WHEREAS, The residents of Clinton, New York, are indeed fortunate
and blessed to have had such a dedicated and respected educational
leader; his wisdom and contributions to Hamilton College have truly made
a difference in the lives of those fortunate enough to have worked with
him; and

WHEREAS, A significant contributor to education in the State of New
York, Herman Lehman has continually demonstrated an impressive
dedication, an unparalleled devotion and an unremitting enthusiasm for
the quality of the educational programs and opportunities offered for
the benefit of its faculty and students, as well as for the entire
community; and

WHEREAS, In completing his service, Herman Lehman leaves behind more
than mere bricks and mortar; he leaves behind a legacy to the students
of Hamilton College and to the residents of Central New York; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Herman Lehman upon the occasion of his retirement after 28
years of dedicated service to Hamilton College, and to wish him
continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Herman Lehman.
