COMMENDING the International Cricket Council upon
the occasion of hosting the India vs. U.S.A. Match
during the historic ICC Men's T20 World Cup on June
12, 2024

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those organizations of high purpose and worthy
accomplishment whose endeavors have faithfully served the welfare of the
citizens of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the International Cricket Council upon the occasion of hosting
the India vs. U.S.A. Match during the historic ICC Men's T20 World Cup
on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at the Nassau County International Cricket
Stadium; and

WHEREAS, Overseeing the administration and regulation of the game of
cricket, the International Cricket Council (ICC) serves as the global
governing body for cricket, representing 108 member countries; the ICC
is also responsible for organizing all ICC events and is committed to
enhancing the game's competitiveness, entertainment value, global reach,
and adhering to their values of fairness; and

WHEREAS, Dating back to the 17th century, cricket was introduced to
North America through the English colonies, and the sport spread
globally throughout the centuries; in the 21st century, cricket has
grown immensely and introduced the Twenty20 format in 2003, which
revolutionized the game with its fast-paced, three-hour matches; and

WHEREAS, Cementing cricket's place in the global sports arena, the
inaugural Men's Twenty20 International took place in 2005; the sport has
achieved a passionate fan base and the ICC strives to reach a remarkable
level of engagement as these intense matches approach the world stage;
and

WHEREAS, The India vs. U.S.A. match highlights the growing
prominence of cricket in the United States and showcases the country's
commitment to achieve sustained competitive excellence and to inspire
the cricket community at all levels; and

WHEREAS, The U.S. men's national cricket team, which has been an
associate member of the ICC since 1965, is eager to demonstrate its
progress on the world stage; the upcoming match is more than just a
game, it represents the culmination of cricket's long-standing presence
in North America and its evolution into a modern, dynamic sport; and

WHEREAS, With the U.S. cricket team striving for excellence and the
Indian cricket team representing its storied legacy, this auspicious
match will be a memorable occasion for cricket fans; and

WHEREAS, Also known as Team U.S.A., the U.S. cricket team represents
the nation in international cricket and their primary goal is to achieve

sustained competitive excellence; the team competes in various
competitions globally and has made significant strides in establishing
its reputation; and

WHEREAS, Nominated in 2024, the captain of the U.S. cricket team is
Monank Patel; comprised of a mix of homegrown talent and players of
diverse backgrounds, key players on the team are Monank Patel, fast
bowler Ali Khan, and all-rounder Steven Taylor, all of whom bring
experience and skill to the squad; and

WHEREAS, The U.S. cricket team has participated in events such as
the ICC World Cricket League and ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers; and

WHEREAS, Aiming to increase participation and interest in the sport
of cricket across the country, the U.S. cricket team has emphasized
grassroots development in recent years; they have facilitated youth
programs, coaching initiatives, and the establishment of regional
leagues to nurture talent at the local level; and

WHEREAS, The success of the International Cricket Council is in
direct correlation to the efforts of its leadership, and dedicated staff
and volunteers, whose involvement are, and always have been,
characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and
an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of
the organization and the community it serves; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the International Cricket Council upon the occasion of hosting
the India vs. U.S.A. Match during the historic ICC Men's T20 World Cup
on June 12, 2024; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to International Cricket Council.
