COMMENDING the Utica Roadrunners upon the occasion
of hosting its 50th Annual Fallen Leaves Road Race
on September 22, 2024

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that the quality
of the citizens of the State of New York is greatly enriched by its
exceptional cultural, educational and recreational organizations and
events; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Utica Roadrunners upon the occasion of hosting its 50th
Annual Fallen Leaves Road Race on Sunday, September 22, 2024

WHEREAS, Nestled at the foot of the Adirondack Mountains the Utica
area has wonderfully varied terrain that lends itself to running; and

WHEREAS, The Utica Roadrunners are one of the most active and social
running clubs in the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA); and

WHEREAS, A diverse group of over 600 individuals who promote health
and fitness through running as well as many other activities, the Utica
Roadrunners are a club of all ages and paces where anyone is welcome to
join in; and

WHEREAS, The Utica Roadrunners' Falling Leaves Road Race is a
beautiful celebration of the fall colors and is held annually at the end
of September with near perfect running conditions

WHEREAS, A very competitive and popular Central New York event, the
Falling Leaves Road Race consists of two courses; both races start and
finish on Genesee Street in downtown Utica adjacent to the Radisson
Hotel and The Savings Bank of Utica; and

WHEREAS, The Fallen Leaves Road Race includes a downtown 5k, as well
as a scenic 14k route which flows through the Switchbacks of the South
Woods; furthermore, the day's events begin at 8:15am with the Annual
Kid's Kilometer Fun Run; and

WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Fallen Leaves Road Race has grown
to over 1,400 entries and continues to grow; and

WHEREAS, The Fallen Leaves Road Race promotes a healthy lifestyle
with a focus on fun, family, and community spirit; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the Utica
Roadrunner's Fallen Leaves Road Race; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations and events of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it


RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Utica Roadrunners upon the occasion of hosting its 50th
Annual Fallen Leaves Road Race on September 22, 2024; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Utica Roadrunners.
