COMMENDING Bob Olson for a lifetime of dedicated
service to the Town of Horicon, New York

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve
the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration
and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and

WHEREAS, Bob Olson has given not only of his time and energies but
also of his competence, intelligence, and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor for a lifetime of dedicated
service to the Town of Horicon, New York; and

WHEREAS, Bob Olson has been called upon to contribute his time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of himself unstintingly; throughout the entire period of his community
service, a period of constructive involvement, Bob Olson has stood
constant in dignity and good grace; and

WHEREAS, With his wife, Jean, Bob Olson built a vacation home on
Brant Lake in 1970; two years later, they became full-time residents; as
a permanent resident of Horicon, this selfless and dedicated man served
as a local Boy Scout leader for many years; and

WHEREAS, From 1976-2012, Bob Olson was the owner of Olson
Contracting, building homes in the Adirondack Region for more than 35
years and providing employment for many local residents; from 1977-1982,
he was Chairman of the Town of Horicon's Planning Board; and

WHEREAS, As a Member of Horicon's Planning Board, Bob Olson was
appointed as Town Board Representative to the Planning Commission, to
review the Town's Comprehensive Master Plan, from 1974-1982; and

WHEREAS, From 1988-2010, Bob Olson was a Member and Director of the
New York State Builders Association, also serving as President and
Chairman of the Board and participating in the Research and Education
Foundation (REF), a leading non-profit organization which guides
students in home-building and construction-related fields of study and
provides scholarships; and

WHEREAS, During his tenure as a Member and Director of the Executive
Committee for the Builders and Remodelers Association of Northern New
York (BRANNY), from 1988-2003, Bob Olson served as President from
1991-1994 and from 2001-2003; and

WHEREAS, Bob Olson was appointed by New York State Governor George
Pataki as a Member of the New York State Fire Prevention and Building
Code Council where he proudly served for six years; from 2002-2024, he
fulfilled the role of Councilman for Horicon's Town Board, recently
resigning; and

WHEREAS, Participating in projects for the Town of Horicon on a pro
bono basis, Bob Olson has been a pillar of his community and this great
Empire State; he has also been an invaluable asset to the construction

industry; of the numerous projects throughout the years, the
coordination and building of Horicon's landfill facility which utilized
volunteer labor, supplied by local contractors and the Town of Horicon
Highway Department, made him quite proud; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Bob Olson has displayed
throughout his life; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Bob Olson for a lifetime of dedicated service to the Town of
Horicon, New York; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Bob Olson.
