COMMEMORATING the 25th Anniversary of Save Our
Sodus, Inc. on July 27, 2024
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character in the communities across New York State are
reflective of the concerned and dedicated effort of those organizations
and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 25th Anniversary of Save Our Sodus on July 27, 2024; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1999, Save Our Sodus was founded with the
mission to preserve and improve water quality, protect our shorelines,
and promote a sustainable community around Sodus Bay; and
WHEREAS, Comprised of local residents, vacationers, property owners,
businesses, farmers, boaters, fishermen, sports people, and many others,
the over 600 stakeholders recognize and understand the importance of
preserving the bay's natural beauty, usability, for the flourishment of
our community; and
WHEREAS, Save Our Sodus, Inc. still holds the same passion to
preserve, protect, and promote Sodus Bay as its original founders
twenty-five years ago; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the years, Save Our Sodus has initiated many
projects to preserve the water quality of the bay, including: wetland
preservations, the NAB-A-HAB program to report harmful algae blooms,
weed harvesting to help keep the water clear, as well as collaborating
with New York State Federation of Lake Associations and the Department
of Environmental Conservation to routinely test the quality of the
water; and
WHEREAS, Whether it be a letter-writing campaign to their federal
representatives to help repair a break wall or opening lines of
communication with the International Joint Commission who over sees the
water levels of Lake Ontario to ensure that the residents of Sodus Bay
and its neighbors will not be subject to flooding, Save Our Sodus has
been instrumental in advocating for projects that will protect and
enhance shoreline resiliency; and
WHEREAS, Recognizing the pivotal connection between environmental
health, and environmental vitality and community participation, Save Our
Sodus participates and orchestrates events around the community,
including Movie Night in the Park, an Artisan Fair, and a Professional
Cornhole Tournament to promote the Village of Sodus Point and the needs
of Sodus Bay; and
WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 25-year history, Save Our Sodus,
Inc. has demonstrated continuous service to the residents of Sodus
Point, its surrounding communities and Sodus Bay; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberation to
commemorate the 25th Anniversary of Save Our Sodus, Inc. on July 27,
2024; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed be
transmitted to Save Our Sodus, Inc.
