CONGRATULATING New York Liberty's Sandy Brondello
upon the occasion of capturing the Bronze Medal as
Coach of the Australian Women's National Basketball
Team at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding coaches who have distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to join the New York
Liberty community in honoring its Head Coach Sandy Brondello, a woman of
great skill, personal courage and unparalleled dedication, whose
character and athletic achievements are world-renowned and personify the
highest ideals of the American spirit and Olympic Games competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate New York Liberty's Sandy Brondello upon the occasion of
capturing the Bronze Medal as Coach of the Australian Women's National
Basketball Team at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games; and
WHEREAS, On Sunday, August 11, 2024, under Sandy Brondello's watch,
the Australian women's national basketball team was back on the Olympic
podium, taking down Belgium in an 85-81 win during the bronze medal game
of the Paris Games; and
WHEREAS, Under the stellar leadership of Sandy Brondello, Australia
boasts one of the finest comeback stories of the Paris Games, and the
Opals go home with their sixth medal in 10 Olympic showings; and
WHEREAS, This bronze medal is Sandy Brondello's fourth Olympic
medal, having earned three as a player in 1996 (bronze), 2000 (silver),
and 2004 (silver); and
WHEREAS, Sandy Brondello has served as the Head Coach of the New
York Liberty since January 7, 2022, with a current standing of being the
1st Ranked Team in the Eastern Conference (2023); and
WHEREAS, The proud recipient of numerous awards and accolades, as a
coach, Sandy Brondello was named WNBA Coach of the Year in 2014; as a
player she was a WNBA All-Star in 1994, 1995, and 1999; additionally, in
1995 she was named a WNBA Most Valuable Player; she is currently a
Queensland Sport Hall of Famer since 2009; and
WHEREAS, A true role model, Sandy Brondello has brought honor to her
family, friends, and community; her character and achievements stand as
a sterling example and inspiration to all who aspire to such
extraordinary success; and
WHEREAS, Many will only dream of competing in the Olympics; this
extraordinary athlete, through her hard work and tenacious spirit, has
made that vision a reality as both a player and a coach, and has proudly
represented her country in competition among the world's finest
athletes, an honor which will solidify her incredible legacy as an
Olympic Champion; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate New York Liberty's Sandy Brondello upon the occasion of
capturing the Bronze Medal as Coach of the Australian Women's National
Basketball Team at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to New York Liberty Head Coach Sandy Brondello.
