HONORING Dallen and Madalynn Farney upon the
occasion of their designation as recipients of the
Lewis County Young Farmer Award by the Lewis County
Dairy Industry Building Committee

WHEREAS, The agricultural industry is part of the foundation upon
which our distinct American heritage is built; and

WHEREAS, New York State and the entire United States is dependent on
our agricultural industry for a variety of food products; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of our farmers as they continue their hard work of cultivating
the land, facing the many challenges of nature such as flood, drought
and heat, in order to grow our food; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Dallen and Madalynn Farney upon the occasion of their designation as
recipients of the Lewis County Young Farmer Award by the Lewis County
Dairy Industry Building Committee; and

WHEREAS, Dallen and Madalynn Farney, a fourth generation farming
family, are being recognized for their excellence in farm, dairy herd,
crop, and business/financial management; and

WHEREAS, The Farney farm was originally purchased by Webster and
Elbeena Farney in 1938; Herbert and Berneda Farney, the
great-grandparents of Dallen, continued farming the land beginning in
1950; in the early 1980s, brothers Stephen and Dale Farney took over the
farm, with Dallen Farney joining in 2012; and

WHEREAS, Today, the Farneys manage 350 Holstein cows, 300 acres of
corn, and 400 acres of hay; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to their
community, Dallen Farney is involved in Farm Bureau, the Board of
Directors of Lowville Producers, and was previously on the Board of
Directors for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Lewis County; and

WHEREAS, Dedicated to maintaining high standards of quality, these
esteemed farmers have worked tirelessly to overcome obstacles and
challenges, while constantly learning new techniques and methods to
achieve the best results in their field; and

WHEREAS, Through their diligence and expertise in farming, Dallen
and Madalynn Farney have brought pride and recognition to their farm,
local community, and to our great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
exceptional farmers of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought
to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the
citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it


RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dallen and Madalynn Farney upon the occasion of their designation
as recipients of the Lewis County Young Farmer Award by the Lewis County
Dairy Industry Building Committee; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dallen and Madalynn Farney.
