Senate Resolution No. 2725

COMMENDING Leonard F. Porcaro posthumously upon
the occasion of his designation as recipient of a
Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Leonard F.
Porcaro posthumously upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the
New York State Senate, to be presented at the Schenectady County
Honor-A-Veteran ceremony on Sunday, September 8, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Leonard F. Porcaro was born on February 1, 1932, in Albany,
New York; the son of Leonard and Mary Porcaro, and attended Schuyler
High School in Albany, New York; and

WHEREAS, On August 8, 1952, Leonard F. Porcaro enlisted in the
United States Army and proudly served his country as a member of the
Army Artillery where he studied radio communication in the 9th Infantry
Division Radio School before being assigned as a radio operator; and

WHEREAS, For his courageous service, Leonard F. Porcaro was awarded
the Army of Occupation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal; and

WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his military service on July 20,
1954, Leonard F. Porcaro was employed with Keeler's Restaurant of
Albany, General Electric, and the United States Postal Service, the
career from which he retired in 1992; and

WHEREAS, Active in his community, Leonard F. Porcaro belonged to
American Legion Post No. 1005 where he served as Commander for more than
40 years; he also served as Commander of the American Legion of
Schenectady County; and

WHEREAS, In his spare time, Leonard F. Porcaro enjoyed going
hunting, fishing, and bowling, and enjoyed playing on the United States
Postal Service Softball Team; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout his years of service and alongside him
throughout his meaningful life, had been his spouse, Anita Porcaro;
brothers, John and Frank; daughter, Christine; eight grandchildren; and
six great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Leonard F. Porcaro was predeceased by his parents, Leonard
and Mary; brother, Vincent; sisters, Marie, Virginia, and Caroline; and
children, Kathleen, James, and Mary; and

WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize

that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who gave their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and

WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Leonard F. Porcaro demonstrated his love for his country and merits
forevermore, the highest respect of his State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Leonard F. Porcaro posthumously upon the occasion of his
designation as a recipiant of a Liberty Medal on September 8, 2024; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Leonard F. Porcaro.
