MOURNING the death of Lieutenant Kenneth Sgroi of
the Yorktown Police Department
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Kenneth Sgroi of Yorktown Heights, New York,
died on Monday, January 2, 2023, at the age of 37; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Kenneth Sgroi distinguished himself in his
profession and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to
the welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, His commitment to excellence, and his spirit of humanity,
carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charitable and
civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth Sgroi started his career in law enforcement in
2007, with the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, later transferring to
the Yorktown Police Department in 2009; and
WHEREAS, As a patrol officer with the Yorktown Police Department
(YPD), Kenneth Sgroi was the first-place recipient of the Stop DWI award
for the Town of Yorktown in 2010 and 2012; in 2013, he received a
certificate of commendation for his excellent work at the YPD and he
also became a certified field training officer and a desk officer; and
WHEREAS, In 2016, Kenneth Sgroi was promoted to the rank of Sergeant
and was assigned a patrol squad to supervise as a Patrol Supervisor; he
also oversaw the Yorktown Police Department Field Training Program, and
was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in July of 2022, where he was
assigned as the Staff Division Commander; and
WHEREAS, On Wednesday, January 4, 2023, members of the Yorktown
Heights Fire Department, along with members from Millwood Fire
Department and the Yorktown Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Empress
Emergency Medical Services, paid tribute to Lieutenant Kenneth Sgroi
above the Taconic State Parkway as his body was returned to Yorktown
from a New York City hospital; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Kenneth Sgroi is survived by his beloved wife,
Anne; their cherished children, Gabriella and Joseph; his mother, Alice;
his sister, Pamela; his nieces, Ava and Layla and nephew Julian; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Lieutenant Kenneth Sgroi leaves behind a legacy which will
long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory
to all he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Lieutenant Kenneth Sgroi of the Yorktown Police
Department; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Lieutenant Kenneth Sgroi.
