COMMENDING Local Initiatives Support Corporation
NYC upon the occasion of hosting its Big Apple
Awards Gala on May 18, 2023
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Local Initiatives Support Corporation NYC upon the occasion of
hosting its Big Apple Awards Gala on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at the
Rainbow Room in New York, New York; and
WHEREAS, During this auspicious occasion, Local Initiatives Support
Corporation (LISC) NYC will recognize community-based partners and
advocates that are creating a bright future for New York City, and
providing a unique opportunity for attendees to learn how these
trailblazing organizations and allies are transforming our city into a
more equitable place for everyone; and
WHEREAS, For 40 years, LISC NYC has supported local initiatives to
advance equitable development of historically underinvested
neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, LISC NYC is dedicated to helping underinvested New York
City neighborhoods meet community needs, from affordable housing to
quality jobs by working hand-in-hand with community-based nonprofits,
government agencies, technical assistance providers, and philanthropic
funders; and
WHEREAS, This vital organization truly believes New York City
neighborhoods are at their best, as places to live, do business, work,
and raise families, when they are racially diverse and culturally
dynamic; and
WHEREAS, By activating impact-oriented partnerships, LISC NYC
diligently works to ensure that our city is one of shared prosperity;
and
WHEREAS, Since its inception, LISC NYC has invested over $3 billion,
leveraged an additional $7.6 billion in support of low- and
moderate-income New York City communities, resulting in over 42,000
affordable homes built and preserved, and nearly 2.5 million square feet
of retail and community space preserved, helping to stabilize
neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, The success of LISC NYC is in direct correlation to the
efforts of its members, whose involvement is, and always has been,
characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and
an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of
the institution and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
organizations which enhance the quality of life in their community and
have shown a long and sustained commitment to the maintenance of high
standards in their profession, certainly have earned the recognition and
applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Local Initiatives Support Corporation NYC upon the occasion of
hosting its Big Apple Awards Gala on May 18, 2023; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Local Initiatives Support Corporation NYC.
