HONORING Deon Brown upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of a 2023 Women-N-Motion
Empowerment Award by the Young, Gifted & Black
Entrepreneurial Awards Program
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals who have distinguished themselves
through their exemplary careers, accomplishments, and purposeful lives
of service to their community and their profession; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Deon Brown upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of a 2023
Women-N-Motion Empowerment Award by the Young, Gifted & Black
Entrepreneurial Awards Program to be celebrated at its Awards Brunch on
Sunday, March 26, 2023, at the Simpson Restaurant and Bar, Brooklyn, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Founded by Carl O. Gray, the Young, Gifted & Black (YGB)
Entrepreneurial Awards Program recognizes individuals who continue to
reach levels of great success through hard work and determination,
proving to be inspiring role models to their community and peers; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, in conjunction with the observance of Women's
History Month, this auspicious occasion features several outstanding
women who are leaders, motivators, business professionals, innovators
and entrepreneurs; and
WHEREAS, Deon Brown is a leader, visionary, Adjunct professor,
entrepreneur and has more than 24 years' experience in Human Resources
with a focus on recruiting; and
WHEREAS, In addition to being part owner of Nifty Concept Inc., a
medical supply, janitorial and office supply distributor, Deon Brown
serves as CEO of Exceptional Staffing Group Inc., a staffing agency with
a focus on the healthcare field, IT, accounting/finance and
administration; and
WHEREAS, Deon Brown earned an Associate's degree in Computer
Programming from LaGuardia Community College and a Bachelor's degree
from Adelphi University; during this time, she held several diverse
positions, working as a Broker at Merrill Lynch as well as a fit model
in the garment industry before becoming a merchandise manager; she also
started her own jewelry business and even had one of her pieces
patented; and
WHEREAS, After returning to the corporate arena, Deon Brown stumbled
into Human Resources where she has excelled for more than two decades;
her passion and drive allowed her the title of top recruiter for nine
years at a $3.5 Billion global corporation, while making it her mission
to empower others with tools they can use to fulfill their life's
purpose; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to giving back,
Deon Brown has volunteered her time by participating in numerous
community outreach programs for adults, college students and high school
students; she has partnered with several local high school business
classes to conduct mock interviews and career counseling; and
WHEREAS, As a Chairperson of the Long Island Chamber of Commerce
membership committee, Deon Brown has been instrumental in spearheading
the organization's growth as the largest African American Chamber in New
York State; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commend
individuals of outstanding character, who have shown initiative and
commitment toward constantly pursuing higher goals for themselves, and
acting as role models of leadership to be emulated by both peers and
young people; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Deon Brown upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of a
2023 Women-N-Motion Empowerment Award by the Young, Gifted & Black
Entrepreneurial Awards Program; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Deon Brown.
