CONGRATULATING Brian Liu upon the occasion of
winning the ScholarSkills Long Island Spelling Bee
on March 24, 2023
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend and
pay tribute to those young people who, by achieving outstanding success
in educational competition, have inspired and brought pride to our
majestic Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Brian Liu upon the occasion of winning the ScholarSkills
Long Island Spelling Bee on Friday, March 24, 2023, at Half Hollow Hills
High School East in Dix Hills, New York; and
WHEREAS, A straight "A" student and spelling bee champion,
11-year-old Brian Liu is a sixth-grade student at Great Neck North
Middle School in Great Neck, New York; he enjoys playing the violin and
reading Harry Potter books; and
WHEREAS, This astute young scholar won by correctly spelling
"Bolognese", defeating 47 of the best spellers from throughout the
region; in winning, Brian Liu has earned the honor of representing Long
Island in the Scripps National Spelling Bee from May 30-June 1, 2023, in
Washington D.C.; and
WHEREAS, Brian Liu, in achieving this high honor, may take just
pride in the inspiration and contribution to the spirit of excellence he
brings to his family, friends, school and region; and
WHEREAS, Educational competitions which serve to better prepare our
students for their future participation in the marketplace of ideas are
worthy of praise and support; and
WHEREAS, Brian Liu represents the potential inherent in our most
precious resource, our youth; his achievements have brought enduring
honor to his family and community and should be recognized and saluted;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend
students of outstanding character who have shown initiative and a
commitment to constantly pursuing higher goals for themselves, and act
as role models of leadership to be emulated by their peers; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Brian Liu upon the occasion of winning the ScholarSkills
Long Island Spelling Bee on March 24, 2023; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Brian Liu.
