MOURNING the death of George Graniero, meritorious
veteran and firefighter, distinguished citizen, and
devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to publicly mourn the death
of those prominent citizens whose lifework and purposeful endeavors have
served to enrich and enhance the quality and character of life for
others in their community and the great State of New York; and

WHEREAS, It is with feelings of deepest regret that this Legislative
Body recognizes the passing of George Graniero, a preeminent citizen
whose distinguished public service and caring commitment will long serve
as a standard to which others might aspire; and

WHEREAS, George Graniero of Bedford Hills, New York, died on
February 19, 2023, at the age of 94; and

WHEREAS, Born a first generation American on March 14, 1928 to
Michael and Assunta Graniero, George Graniero was a lifelong resident of
Bedford Hills, New York until moving to Syracuse last year; and

WHEREAS, After graduating from Bedford Hills High School, George
Graniero served his country in the Army Medical Corps as a medic during
World War II; and

WHEREAS, Further serving the community, George Graniero volunteered
with the Bedford Hills Fire Department as a teenager; he was a
firefighter for a remarkable 76 years; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his career in service, George Graniero spent
many years working as a barber at his shop, in Mount Kisco, New York;
and

WHEREAS, George Graniero, and his wife Della Crandall, who
tragically passed in 2014, led full lives; they often attended concerts
at Caramoor and Tanglewood, planned ski trips in the East and out West,
hiked many of the National Parks, travelled to Italy, and spent many
peaceful moments at their vacation home on Cape Cod; and

WHEREAS, George Graniero is survived by his three sons: Michael,
George Jr., and Douglas; three grandsons: Marc, Jeffrey, and Samuel; two
great-grandchildren: Audrey and Marc Jr.; and

WHEREAS, Forever lasting are the memories of George Graniero, his
family remembers attending many baseball and football games; he was an
avid New York Yankees and Giants fan and passed the love of the team
down through the generations; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, George Graniero leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of George Graniero, meritorious veteran and firefighter,
distinguished citizen, and devoted member of his community; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of George Graniero.
