CONGRATULATING the Syracuse University Men's
Soccer Team upon the occasion of winning the 2022
National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)
Men's Soccer Tournament and National Championship

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through strenuous practice, teamwork and a dedicated
coaching staff; and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success, and by
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate and recognize the Syracuse University Men's Soccer Team
upon the occasion of winning the 2022 National Collegiate Athletic
Association (NCAA) Men's Soccer Tournament and National Championship;
and

WHEREAS, During their 8th NCAA Tournament, the Syracuse University
Men's Soccer Team won the program's first ever National Championship,
defeating Indiana University 7-6 in a penalty kick shootout; and

WHEREAS, The Orange finished their season with an impressive overall
record of 19-2-4, the most wins in a single season in program history;
and

WHEREAS, The title marks the 80th National Championship in Syracuse
Athletics' history of 31 team titles and 49 individual championships;
and

WHEREAS, Syracuse University is the fourth ever ACC program to win
its regular season division, conference tournament and NCAA National
Championship in a single-season; and

WHEREAS, Coach Ian McIntyre guided the team to the National
Championship in his 13th season as Head Coach, earning his 2nd NCAA
College Cup, 7th NCAA Tournament Appearance and 2nd Atlantic Coast
Conference (ACC) title; he was also named National College Coach of the
Year for the second time in 2022; and

WHEREAS, Goalkeeper Russell Shealy was named the 2022 Men's College
Cup Defensive Most Outstanding Player, while Nathan Opoku earned Most
Outstanding Offensive Player; they were joined on the All-Tournament
Team by Levonte Johnson, Curt Calov, Christian Curti and Jeorgio
Kocevski; and

WHEREAS, A school record five Syracuse men's soccer players were
selected in the 2023 Major League Soccer SuperDraft, Abdi Salim, Levonte
Johnson, Amferny Sinclair, Russell Shealy, Buster Sjoberg; and


WHEREAS, The outstanding athletic talent, teamwork and sportsmanship
displayed by the Syracuse University Men's Soccer Team is due in great
part to the skilled and supportive efforts of Head Coach Ian McIntyre,
Associate Head Coach Jukka Masalin, Assistant Coach Sean Lawlor,
Assistant Provost for Student-Athlete Academic Development Tommy J.
Powell and Communications Assistant Nick Economides; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the season, the support of fans within both the
Syracuse University and Central New York communities showed great
enthusiasm; and

WHEREAS, Members of the Syracuse University Men's Soccer Team
rallied behind one another in establishing a brotherhood of athletic
ability, good sportsmanship, honor and scholarship, while demonstrating
these team players are of the highest caliber, while contributing to the
spirit of excellence that is a tradition of their university; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the outstanding members of the Syracuse University Men's
Soccer Team: Sam Coss, Russell Shealy, Christian Curti, Abdi Salim, Noah
Singelmann, Amferny Sinclair, Julio Fulcar, Curt Calov, Jeorgio
Kocevski, Julius Rauch, Nathan Opoku, Lorenzo Boselli, Gavin Wigg, Colin
Biros, Levonte Johnson, Louie Bulger, Michal Gradus, Giona Leibold,
Camden Holbrook, Buster Sjoberg, Trevor Carabin, Stephen Betz, Olu
Oyegunle, Jackson Glenn, Andrea DiBlasio, Parker Kump, Tony Shaw, Aidan
Arber, Francesco Pagano, Antonino Pagano, Jahiem Wickham, Noah Lechelt,
Marc Chin and Lucas Daunhauer on their outstanding season and overall
team record; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to members of the Syracuse University Men's Soccer Team, and
the aforementioned coaches and staff.
