COMMEMORATING the 50th Anniversary of the
Patterson Historical Society

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Patterson Historical Society;
and

WHEREAS, The Town of Patterson is located in the northeast corner of
Putnam County, in the Harlem River Valley region of New York State; and

WHEREAS, The Patterson Historical Society was established to
increase knowledge of and interest in all subjects relating to
Patterson's rich history; and

WHEREAS, This vital society promotes historical research and
educates local residents on the history of the town, and preserves for
posterity places, buildings, landmarks and objects of historical
interest in Patterson; and

WHEREAS, Remaining true to its mission to collect and preserve
materials which relate to the history of the Town of Patterson, and to
promote an awareness and an understanding of Patterson's heritage, the
Patterson Historical Society published a book, Vignettes of Patterson's
Past, in 2007; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, the Patterson Historical Society stores its
remnants of the past at the Patterson Town Hall, and the organization
continues its work to restore the Old Burying Ground on Route 311 across
from Brickhouse Road; and

WHEREAS, With a primary focus on education, the Society seeks out,
conserves, interprets, and publishes information about Patterson's
past-a past that was a part of the cultures of the
Housatonic-and-Hudson-Rivers region, our Nation, and the world; and

WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 50-year history, the Patterson
Historical Society has demonstrated continuous service to the residents
and communities which it serves; and

WHEREAS, The success of the Patterson Historical Society is in
direct correlation to the efforts of its dedicated board members, staff
and volunteers, whose involvement is, and always has been, characterized
by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an
uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the
organization and the community it serves; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the Patterson
Historical Society; and

WHEREAS, Steeped in a proud and distinguished history, the Patterson
Historical Society may take just pride in its purposeful growth, as it
looks forward to continuing to serve the educational, cultural and
intellectual needs of the community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Patterson Historical Society;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Patterson Historical Society.
