MOURNING the death of Ronald Shafran,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Shafran of Bayside, New York, died on April 21,
2024, at the age of 77; and

WHEREAS, Born on March 15, 1947, Ronald Shafran was raised in
Flushing, Queens; earning the title of National Merit Scholar, he
graduated with Honors from Queens College and obtained both his
bachelor's and master's degrees; and

WHEREAS, Embarking on his career, Ronald Shafran began as a teacher
at Adlai Stevenson High School and earned the respect of his peers as
the youngest Department Head in the school's history; he also
established himself as an accomplished author of educational textbooks;
and

WHEREAS, Getting involved in government and politics, Ronald Shafran
worked to help elect President Jimmy Carter before serving as a Deputy
Commissioner in the Koch Administration; in the private sector, he
became an award-winning advertising executive and government relations
consultant for 30 years before his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Serving as a mentor to his son and involving himself in the
community, Ronald Shafran coached Little League and attended all his
baseball games; together, they enjoyed attending New York Yankees games;
and

WHEREAS, Ronald Shafran distinguished himself in his profession and
by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Shafran's commitment to excellence, and his
altruistic nature, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including
charitable and civic endeavors; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Shafran is survived by his wife of 50 years,
Phyllis; his son, Austin; his grandsons, Mason and Teddy; his sister,
Denise; and his daughter-in-law, Jennifer; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Ronald Shafran leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he
served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Ronald Shafran, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Ronald Shafran.
