CONGRATULATING Richard "Dick" L. Marley upon the
occasion of celebrating his 100th Birthday on May 2,
2024

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commemorate
and recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great
Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Richard "Dick" L. Marley upon the occasion of his 100th
Birthday to be celebrated on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Turning Stone
Resort Casino and with friends and family at the Delta Lake Inn for
brunch; and

WHEREAS, Richard Marley was born on May 2, 1924 at Memorial Hospital
in Utica, New York; and

WHEREAS, Serving the United States at the age of 18, Richard Marley
enlisted in the Army in November of 1942 and was honorably discharged in
February of 1946; he was stationed at West Point, serving as an official
driver, transporting generals and other high-ranking officials or
dignitaries to various events and activities; and

WHEREAS, Rising through the ranks, Richard Marley rose to the rank
of corporal; after his honorable discharge, he moved with his family to
Prospect, New York in late 1946; he returned to work at the new Griffiss
Air Force Base, working there until he retired in 1970; and

WHEREAS, From 1971 to 1985, Richard Marley went to work at Mohawk
Valley Community College as an auditor in the Business Office and the
head of Office Services; he then moved to Clinton in 1982, shortly
before his retirement in 1985; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his partner, Mary Jane
Presite, three children, five grandchildren, and two
great-grandchildren, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his
life and rejoice in his achievements; and

WHEREAS, At age 55, Richard Marley began golfing and skiing, and he
has been a member of the Oneida Golf Club for nearly 23 years; and

WHEREAS, Richard Marley, with his zest for life, has inspired and
enhanced the lives of his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian has experienced the incredible
joys and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the
stamina and courage to savor a full life; and


WHEREAS, Richard Marley has enriched the lives of those around him
through his joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have
witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and
awesome achievements of this country during the last century, while
themselves contributing to the growth and excellence of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Richard "Dick" L. Marley upon the occasion of celebrating
his 100th Birthday on May 2, 2024; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Richard "Dick" L. Marley.
