MOURNING the death of Dennis L. Dickinson,
distinguished citizen, public servant, and devoted
member of his community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Dennis L. Dickinson of Lake George, New York, died on
Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at the age of 77; and
WHEREAS, Dennis L. Dickinson distinguished himself in his profession
and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the
welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, Born August 7, 1946, in Saratoga, he was the son of the
late Harold 'Dick' and Lois (Mundell) Dickinson and was proud to grow up
on Sewell Street in Lake George; he married his high school sweetheart
Andrea Grant in 1969, and the two were together ever since; and
WHEREAS, Dennis L. Dickinson received his Bachelor of Forestry
Engineering degree from New York State College of Forestry and
Environmental Sciences from Syracuse University, earned a B.S. in Civil
Engineering from Syracuse University and then earned his Master's in
Environmental Sciences degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; he
went on to become a Licensed Land Surveyor both in New York State and
Vermont, as well as a Licensed Engineer in New York State; and
WHEREAS, For the last 45 years, Dennis L. Dickinson was the owner of
D.L. Dickinson Associates Land Surveyors and Professional Engineers and
employed many local people over the years, having a positive and lasting
impact on their lives and careers; and
WHEREAS, Dennis L. Dickinson had a deep connection to his community
as a dedicated public servant, serving as Supervisor to the Town of Lake
George from 1980 to 1984, and again from 2012 until his passing; he also
pridefully served on the Warren County Board of Supervisors and the
Board of the Lake George Arts Project; and
WHEREAS, Having many interests and hobbies, Dennis L. Dickinson
deeply enjoyed the outdoors, specifically, the Adirondack Mountains; he
also loved skiing, fearlessly hitting jumps alongside his sons,
showcasing his youthful spirit in all endeavors throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, Dennis L. Dickinson was never afraid to try new things and
never let any inhibitions limit him, whether it was learning Tai Kwon Do
with his older son, eventually earning his brown-black belt, or building
his family's homes, building a successful business, or outfitting a 1965
Chevy Van and driving across country with his wife Andrea; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Dennis L. Dickinson has built almost every
home he and his family have lived in over his years, demonstrating
unrelenting determination and competency in these extensive
undertakings; and
WHEREAS, Always making sure to have fun during his life, Dennis L.
Dickinson enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, playing guitar
and harmonica, and enjoying his favorite indulgence, chocolate; and
WHEREAS, Dennis L. Dickinson's commitment to excellence, and his
spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise,
including charitable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Dennis L. Dickinson is survived by his wife, Andrea; his
sons: Garth (Jenn) and Devin (Amanda) Dickinson; his grandchildren:
Alex, Hannah, Gavin, and William; his sister, Audrey Clark; his brother,
Larry (Marianne); his sisters-in-law: Joan Lange and Barbara (David)
Krogmann; along with several nieces and nephews; and
WHEREAS, Dennis L. Dickinson was predeceased by his sisters: Linda
Dickinson and Sandra Combs; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and
Fran Grant; and his brothers-in-law: Glenn Combs, Matt Clark, David
Grant, and Mark Lange; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Dennis L. Dickinson leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Dennis L. Dickinson, distinguished citizen, public
servant, and devoted member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Dennis L. Dickinson.
