COMMEMORATING the 100th Anniversary of Peekskill
City School District on April 12, 2024

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations of the State of New York who have made stellar
efforts on behalf of young people and their futures; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Peekskill City School District, to
be celebrated on Friday, April 12, 2024, at their Centennial Gala hosted
by the Peekskill Education Foundation at The Factoria at Charles Point
in Peekskill, New York; and

WHEREAS, Paying tribute to this year's honorees, the Lifetime
Commitment Award was received Mr. James B. Taylor; alumni who are
receiving recognition are: STEAM: Ms. Bria Waterman (Arts), STEAM: Dr.
Sitembile Sales (Science), Business: Mr. Chappy Manzer, Athletics: Mr.
Lou Panzanaro, Jr., Athletics: Mr. Elton Brand, Community Service:
Peekskill Police Department, Community Service: Peekskill Fire
Department, Community Service: Peekskill Youth Bureau, Education: Dr.
Bridget Holloman, Elected Official: Mayor Vivian McKenzie, and Elected
Official: Mr. George Pataki; the Gone, but Not Forgotten Award was
received by Regent Judith Johnson and Mr. Daniel Callahan; and Friends
of PCSD that are being honored are Mr. Wilfredo Morel of
Arts10566/SunRiver Health and Mr. Louie Lanza of Hudson Hospitality
Group; and

WHEREAS, Peekskill City School District's mission is to educate and
empower all students to strive for excellence as life-long learners who
embrace diversity and are contributing members of a global society; and

WHEREAS, The Peekskill Education Foundation, or PEF, is a
community-based organization dedicated to enriching and expanding the
educational experiences and cultural opportunities for all students
within the Peekskill Cit School District; and

WHEREAS, In 1923, School District No. 7, or Drum Hill School
District, and School District No. 8, Oakside School District, were
consolidated to become the Peekskill Union Free School District; and

WHEREAS, Educating thousands of students over its hundred-year
history, Peekskill City School District serves as a beacon for the
Peekskill community and has shown impressive dedication through a myriad
of sports successes and programs; and

WHEREAS, The success of Peekskill City School District is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its dedicated staff, whose involvement is,
and always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an
unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in
all endeavors on behalf of the organization and the community it serves;
and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Peekskill City School District on
April 12, 2024; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Peekskill City School District and the Peekskill
Education Foundation.
