COMMEMORATING the 235th Anniversary of the Town of
Pawling, New York, on March 7, 2023
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor and
commemorate the distinguished histories of the communities which
comprise the noble body of this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 235th Anniversary of the Town of Pawling, New York, on
March 7, 2023; and
WHEREAS, The Town of Pawling was part of the Beekman Patent, a large
land grant to Colonial Henry Beekman in 1697; and
WHEREAS, During the American Revolution Colonial Commander in Chief
George Washington established his headquarters at the John Kane House in
the Town for two months in 1778; and
WHEREAS, Today, nestled in the foothills of the Berkshires, Pawling
is a community of abundance; country vistas, unique homes, and a quaint
village welcome all; town residents enjoy the oldest municipality owned
golf course in America, a dozen tennis courts, two lakes, and more than
300 acres of parkland; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, the Great Swamp, Appalachian Trail and Nature
Conservancy offer outdoor enthusiasts' opportunities aplenty; and
WHEREAS, In a community steeped in benevolence, dozens of volunteer
organizations provide everything from tours of Washington's headquarters
to a staffed Chamber of Commerce Visitors Center; and
WHEREAS, Pawling, New York is located in the southwestern corner of
the 105th Assembly District; and
WHEREAS, Of historic origin, and remaining fruitful over the ebb and
flow of decades of growth and change, the Town of Pawling continues to
provide the quintessential quality of life for its residents; and
WHEREAS, The residents of the Town of Pawling have a bright outlook
for the future of their community, which remains a beautiful place in
which to live and raise a family; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of the Town of Pawling's rich history and
enduring contribution to the State of New York, this Legislative Body is
proud to pay tribute to this spirited town upon the occasion of its
235th Anniversary; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 235th Anniversary of the Town of Pawling on March 7,
2023, recognizing the significance of the role it continues to play in
the life of the community of the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Town of Pawling, New York.
