MOURNING the death of Harold Joseph Peterson,
loving husband, father and grandfather,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community

WHEREAS, There are certain outstanding members of our community who,
through their selfless commitment and dedication, have served to better
the quality of life in our community and have had a measurable positive
impact on the lives of its residents; Harold Joseph Peterson was one
such individual; and

WHEREAS, It is with great sorrow and deep regret that this
Legislative Body records the passing of Harold Joseph Peterson, noting
the significance of his purposeful life and accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, Harold Joseph Peterson of New City, New York, died on June
24, 2022, at the age of 77; and

WHEREAS, Born April 22, 1945, Harold Joseph Peterson grew up
primarily in Rockland County and graduated from Albertus Magnus High
School and Iona College; and

WHEREAS, This remarkable man spent his life dedicated to his
community and to his country, serving two years in the United States
Army where he became an expert in the Pershing Missile; and

WHEREAS, Committed to improving the lives of the people of Rockland
County, Harold Joseph Peterson, with his knowledge, leadership, and
dedication, was an integral part of the Rockland non-profit community;
and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
community, Harold Joseph Peterson worked with numerous local charitable
organizations, including the Arthritis Foundation, Good Samaritan
Hospital, Nyack Hospital, United Hospice of Rockland, Child Care
Resources of Rockland, Meals on Wheels, St. Thomas Aquinas College, Arc
of Rockland, and numerous other organizations; and

WHEREAS, Harold Joseph Peterson served as Rockland County Finance
Commissioner from 1986 to 1992, before having a successful career in
banking; and

WHEREAS, Harold Joseph Peterson, who displayed many exceptional
talents and unique qualities, lived an immensely beautiful life built on
compassion and love; he was a faithful Catholic and parishioner at St.
Augustine's Church in New City; he was a lifelong Yankee fan who enjoyed
golf and poker, but whose first love was his family; and

WHEREAS, Predeceased by his parents, Harold Nathaniel and Loretta
Peterson, Harold Joseph Peterson is survived by his beloved wife,
Stella; daughter, Melissa (Michael); son, Michael (Kathleen); sisters
Kathleen (Tasos) and Mary (Richard); five grandchildren, Kara, Emma,

Jack, Kaitlyn, and Anna; and numerous nieces and nephews and grand
nieces and nephews; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Harold Joseph Peterson leaves behind a legacy which will
long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory
to all he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Harold Joseph Peterson, and to express its deepest
condolences to his family; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Harold Joseph Peterson.
