MEMORIALIZING Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim
May 21-27, 2023, as Emergency Medical Services Week
in the State of New York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
give outstanding service to the people of this Empire State and whose
extraordinary achievements save lives, so profoundly strengthen our
shared commitment to family and community life; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to memorialize
Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim May 21-27, 2023, as Emergency Medical
Services Week in the State of New York, in conjunction with the
observance of National EMS Week; and
WHEREAS, National Emergency Medical Services Week brings together
local communities and medical personnel to publicize safety, honor and
dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of
medicine's "front line"; and
WHEREAS, Emergency Medical Services are an important part of the
continuum of healthcare; and
WHEREAS, The members of emergency medical services teams are ready
to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a
week; and
WHEREAS, Access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the
survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or
injury; and
WHEREAS, The emergency medical services system consists of
physicians, nurses, emergency medical technicians, paramedics,
firefighters, law enforcement officers, dispatchers, medical volunteers,
and others; and
WHEREAS, The members of emergency medical services teams, whether
career or volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of specialized
training and continuing education to enhance their lifesaving skills;
and
WHEREAS, The residents of the State of New York benefit daily from
the knowledge and skills of these highly trained individuals; and
WHEREAS, The Emergency Medical Services system provides valuable
service to the community and is the vital link between the patient and
other healthcare providers; and
WHEREAS, Approximately 2.8 million calls are handled by Emergency
Medical Services providers each year in New York State; and
WHEREAS, More than 50,000 dedicated Emergency Medical Services
providers, whether volunteer or career, respond 24 hours a day to calls
for emergency care throughout the community; and
WHEREAS, Injury prevention and the appropriate use of the Emergency
Medical Services system will help reduce national healthcare costs; and
WHEREAS, A great community is only as great as those persons and
organizations that provide exemplary service, whether through
participation in voluntary programs, through unique personal achievement
in their profession or other endeavors, or simply through a lifetime of
good citizenry; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
organizations and individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim May 21-27, 2023, as
Emergency Medical Services Week in the State of New York; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Kathy Hochul, Governor of the State of New
York.
