COMMEMORATING the Schuylerville Garden Club upon
the occasion of celebrating its 80th Anniversary

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those organizations of commitment and high achievement whose
purpose and endeavor have been dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in
floral design and the promotion of civic and environmental
responsibility in this noble Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the Schuylerville Garden Club upon the occasion of
celebrating its 80th Anniversary; and

WHEREAS, The Schuylerville Garden Club was organized on March 24,
1938, with nine charter members and Clyde Maybee serving as founding
president; and

WHEREAS, The Schuylerville Garden Club became federated in 1951 as a
member of the National Garden Clubs and New York State Federated Garden
Clubs, District IV; and

WHEREAS, Since its inception, eight decades ago, the Schuylerville
Garden Club has held its meetings on the second Wednesday of each month;
and

WHEREAS, In the 1940s, defense bonds were discussed at the
Schuylerville Garden Club meetings, and it was decided that floral
contest winners would receive "War Stamps" as their winning prize; and

WHEREAS, The Schuylerville Garden Club now has 40 members who all
take an active part in meeting the club's goals: to stimulate the
knowledge and love of gardening, to study flower arrangements and
horticulture, to promote conservation and to encourage beautification in
the community; and

WHEREAS, Over the years, the Schuylerville Garden Club has taken on
many projects including village and town planting, an annual flower show
that has been held since 1938, the maintenance of gardens at the
historic Schuyler House and at the Blue Star Memorial, making holiday
favors for Seniors, organizing preschool projects, and decorating public
buildings for the holidays and the high school's graduation ceremony;
and

WHEREAS, The Schuylerville Garden Club donates to multiple
organizations and events including Dollars for Scholars, Schuylerville
Community Theater, The Festival of Trees, DEC Camperships, The Nature
Conservancy, World Gardening, the Schuylerville Food and Emergency
Relief and various programs at the local library; and

WHEREAS, For this year's 80th Annual Flower Show, to be held on July
13-14, 2023, the Schuylerville Garden Club will showcase photos and

memorabilia in commemoration of its special anniversary and milestone;
and

WHEREAS, Steeped in a proud and distinguished history, the
Schuylerville Garden Club may look back with pride and hold true of
purpose in its commitment to serving the Schuylerville community and
beyond; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the Schuylerville Garden Club upon the occasion of
celebrating its 80th Anniversary, noting the propriety of its goals, the
constancy of its commitment, and the significance of its accomplishments
in improving its community now and in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Evelyn Rybaltowski, President of The Schuylerville Garden
Club.
