COMMENDING Kennedy Westbrook upon the occasion of
receiving the 2023 Valley Principals' Award
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend rare
athletic achievements and pay special recognition to those who pursue
excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Kennedy Westbrook upon the occasion of receiving the 2023 Valley
Principal's Award, celebrated with a ceremony at Sayre Elks Lodge on
Sunday, May 21, 2023; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition helps to enhance both the moral and
physical development of young athletes, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the importance of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, The prestigious award, which has been around since 1982, is
given out to a three-sport varsity athlete from Athens, Sayre, or
Waverly, and includes the student athlete's sportsmanship and
citizenship as well as her accolades on the field; and
WHEREAS, In soccer, Kennedy Westbrook was named to the All-State
team as a senior; she finished her career with 50 goals and 29 assists,
becoming the first-ever Lady Wolverine to score 50 goals in a four-year
career; and
WHEREAS, On the basketball court, Kennedy Westbrook joined the
1,000-point club in her most recent season; she finished her career with
1,105 points, which is eighth in school history; and
WHEREAS, Her excellence on the track team contributed to her success
in earning this esteemed award; as a high school junior, Kennedy
Westbrook was a member of Waverly's 400-meter relay team that placed
eighth at states; and
WHEREAS, Kennedy Westbrook, in tradition of excellence, dedication,
and achievement, joins her aunt, former Athens standout athlete Jen
Nichols, on the prestigious list of Valley Principals' Award winners;
and
WHEREAS, Kennedy Westbrook will be heading to play soccer at
Division I New Jersey Institute of Technology, and will undoubtedly
enjoy the sparkling success which she has experienced thus far; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride,
and accomplishment, and Kennedy Westbrook has clearly contributed to the
spirit of excellence which is a tradition of her school; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Kennedy Westbrook upon the occasion of receiving the 2023 Valley
Principals' Award; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Kennedy Westbrook.
