CONGRATULATING the Cincinnatus Girls Varsity
Soccer Team upon the occasion of capturing the 2023
Class D NYSPHSAA Soccer State Championship on
November 12, 2023
WHEREAS, Individual and team championships are highly sought after
in high school sports; this Legislative Body commends rare athletic
achievements and pays special recognition to those who pursue such
excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State;
and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate the
Cincinnatus Girls Varsity Soccer Team upon the occasion of capturing the
2023 Class D NYSPHSAA Soccer State Championship on Sunday, November 12,
2023 at Homer High School in Homer, New York; and
WHEREAS, After advancing from the semifinals against Fort Ann at
Homer High School with a 6-0 victory, the Lions appeared for a second
year in a row to challenge Fillmore for the championship; and
WHEREAS, To the praise and applause of their excited fans, the Lions
defeated the Fillmore Eagles in a decisive 3-0 victory to capture the
State Championship; the Cincinnatus Girls brought home the first state
title in program history; and
WHEREAS, Proudly representing Cincinnatus Central School District,
family, friends, and the community at large loyally and enthusiastically
supported the Lions throughout their journey as they ended their season
with an impressive overall record of 21-0-2; and
WHEREAS, In a sport such as soccer, which demands athletic prowess,
speed and agility, Head Coach Lisa Sustad and her expert coaching staff
worked hard to hone the skills of this championship team, teaching these
outstanding athletes lessons which will prove invaluable both on and off
the field; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Lisa Sustad and all of the outstanding athletes
on the Cincinnatus Girls Varsity Soccer Team have clearly utilized
dedication, determination and teamwork in providing a lasting
contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of their
school; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the members of the Cincinnatus Girls Varsity Soccer Team:
Payton Landers, Lucy Finch, Mandi Waltz, Cassia Schuyler, Emma Finch,
Kinsley Raymond, Payton Gerrard, Izabella Cosimo, Jelsie Stafford,
Madison Stover, Peyton Stith, Peyton Tefft, Kaedance Latta, Ava
Larrabee, Madelyn Pittsley, Nevaeh Billings, Linette Custer, Jamber
Aiken, Kimberly Hill, Jocelyn Turshman, Sidney Glover, Lydia Scutt, and
Head Coach Lisa Sustad on their outstanding season and overall team
record; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the members of the Cincinnatus Girls Varsity Soccer Team
and Head Coach Lisa Sustad.
