CONGRATULATING Police Chief John J. Swick upon the
occasion of his retirement after 46 years of
distinguished service to the Middleport Police
Department

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished officers who would devote themselves to public
service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing for the
care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this great
Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their
exemplary contributions and service on behalf of others; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate
Police Chief John J. Swick upon the occasion of his retirement after 46
years of distinguished service to the Middleport Police Department, to
be celebrated with a Ceremony in his honor on Friday, June 28, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
deserve the respect and admiration of their community for their
exemplary contributions and service on behalf of others; Chief John J.
Swick is one such individual; and

WHEREAS, John J. Swick began his illustrious career with the
Middleport Police Department on March 23, 1978; he was promoted to the
esteemed position of Police Chief in March of 1987; over the years, 75
police officers have worked under his able leadership; and

WHEREAS, During his tenure, Chief John J. Swick was successful in
implementing the School Resource Officer program at Royalton-Hartland
Central School; furthermore, in 2014, he was named Lawman of the Year by
the Niagara County Police and Judge's Association after saving a family
of four from a burning building; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
community, Chief John J. Swick has been a member of the Niagara County
Traffic Safety Committee since 1990, and has served as chairman of the
Traffic Safety committee since 2009; he is also a past President of the
Niagara County Police Chief Association, and has been an Elder at
Hartland Bible Church since 2010; and

WHEREAS, For 46 years, Chief John J. Swick rendered faithful,
conscientious and valuable service to the Middleport Police Department,
earning the admiration, esteem and affection of his colleagues; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his first wife of 35 years, the late JoAnne,
with him throughout have been his wife, Wende, as well as his three
children, John, Grace, and Jeffrey, and six grandchildren, all of whom

feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his many
achievements; and

WHEREAS, Chief John J. Swick, with his proficient leadership and
love for the Village of Middleport, truly epitomized the roll of a
community police officer; he tirelessly and selflessly served the
residents of his beloved community with compassion, integrity, and
fairness, attributes which will forever serve as an example for his
fellow officers; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
dedicated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the
preservation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due
full praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be
it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Police Chief John J. Swick upon the occasion of his
retirement after 46 years of distinguished service to the Middleport
Police Department; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Police Chief John J. Swick.
