MEMORIALIZING Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim
the Persian-American community's celebration of the
Persian New Year, Nowruz, on March 19, 2024
WHEREAS, The Persian-American community holds a cherished tradition
in celebrating Nowruz, the Persian New Year, a festive occasion
signifying renewal, cultural heritage and the arrival of Spring; and
WHEREAS, On March 19, 2024, the Persian-American community joyously
observes Nowruz, embracing ancient customs, rituals and values passed
down through generations; and
WHEREAS, Nowruz symbolizes the spirit of rebirth, unity and hope,
fostering cultural pride and a sense of community among
Persian-Americans in New York State and abroad; and
WHEREAS, The celebration of Nowruz offers an opportunity to
recognize and honor the rich cultural heritage, diverse traditions and
contributions of the Persian-American community to the vibrant mosaic of
New York's cultural landscape; and
WHEREAS, Acknowledging Nowruz signifies New York State's commitment
to fostering diversity, inclusivity and understanding among its
residents, promoting the appreciation of various cultural traditions;
and now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim March 19, 2024, as Day of
Nowruz in the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Kathy Hochul, Governor of the State of New
York; and to distinguished members of the Persian-American community.
