BILL NUMBER: S4468 SPONSOR: MAY TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the election law, in relation to allowing voters age sixty-five or older to request an absentee ballot PURPOSE: To allow New Yorkers 65 years of older to have easier access to absentee ballots SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section 1 adds people 65 years or older to the list of those eligible to request absentee ballots in the state Section 2 establishes the effective date of the bill JUSTIFICATION:

MAY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Elections AN ACT to amend the election law, in relation to allowing voters age sixty-five or older to request an absentee ballot THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Paragraph (d) of subdivision 1 of section 8-400 of the election law, as amended by chapter 63 of the laws of 2010, is amended and a new paragraph (e) is added to read as follows: (d) absent from his or her voting residence because he or she is detained in jail awaiting action by a grand jury or awaiting trial, or confined in jail or prison after a conviction for an offense other than a felony, provided that he or she is qualified to vote in the election district of his or her residence[.]; OR (E) SIXTY-FIVE YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER ON THE DATE OF SUCH ELECTION. § 2.
