BILL NUMBER: S4769 SPONSOR: LANZA TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to requiring persons issued a driver's license or permit to report the instance of a medically diagnosed seizure to the commissioner of motor vehicles PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: To require people who experience a seizure at any point to report such instance of a seizure SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section one amends section 502 of the vehicle and traffic law to state that the commissioner shall promulgate rules and regulations requiring any person issued a license or permit under this article to report the instance of a medically diagnosed seizure. Section two is the effective date.

LANZA -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to requiring persons issued a driver's license or permit to report the instance of a medically diagnosed seizure to the commissioner of motor vehicles THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 502 of the vehicle and traffic law is amended by adding a new subdivision 10 to read as follows: 10. REQUIRED REPORTING. THE COMMISSIONER SHALL PROMULGATE RULES AND REGULATIONS REQUIRING ANY PERSON ISSUED A LICENSE OR PERMIT UNDER THIS ARTICLE TO REPORT THE INSTANCE OF A MEDICALLY DIAGNOSED SEIZURE EXPERI- ENCED BY SUCH PERSON TO THE COMMISSIONER WITHIN SIXTY DAYS OF SUCH SEIZURE. § 2. This act shall take effect on the ninetieth day after it shall have become a law. Effective immediately, the addition, amendment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation necessary for the implementation of this act on its effective date are authorized to be made and completed on or before such effective date.
