BILL NUMBER: S5003 SPONSOR: WALCZYK TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to extending the registration period for trailers to five years PURPOSE: To allow trailer owners in the state of New York to register said trail- ers in five year increments as opposed to annual registration. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1: Amends paragraph a of subdivision 8 of section 401 of the vehicle 2 and traffic law, as amended by section 13 of part G of chapter 59 of the 3 laws of 2009. Section 2: Requires that the act take effect immediately.

WALCZYK -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to extending the registration period for trailers to five years THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Paragraph a of subdivision 8 of section 401 of the vehicle and traffic law, as amended by section 13 of part G of chapter 59 of the laws of 2009, is amended to read as follows: a. The provisions of this chapter in relation to registration books and registration, certificates of registration, number plates, dupli- cates of certificates and number plates, [times of registration] and reregistration [and the duration thereof,] for motor vehicles, shall apply also to trailers. THE PROVISIONS OF THIS CHAPTER IN RELATION TO THE TIMES OF REGISTRATION AND REREGISTRATION AND THE DURATION THEREOF FOR MOTOR VEHICLES SHALL APPLY ALSO TO COACH AND HOUSE TRAILERS AND TO SEMITRAILERS. REGISTRATION FOR A TRAILER, OTHER THAN A COACH OR HOUSE TRAILER OR A SEMITRAILER, SHALL BE VALID FOR A PERIOD OF FIVE YEARS. The following fees shall be paid upon the registration or reregistration of a trailer, other than a coach or house trailer or a semitrailer, in accordance with the provisions of this article: The [annual] fee of [five] TWENTY-SIX dollars and [thirty-nine] NINETY-FIVE cents for each five hundred pounds or fraction thereof of maximum gross weight but in no case shall the [annual] fee be less than [fourteen] SEVENTY-ONE dollars and [thirty-eight] NINETY cents. The following fees shall be paid upon the registration or reregistration of a coach or house trailer in accordance with the provisions of this article: The annual fee of one dollar and seventy-three cents for each one hundred pounds or major fraction thereof of unladen weight but in no case shall the annual fee be less than twenty-one dollars and fifty-seven cents.
