BILL NUMBER: S5504 SPONSOR: SCARCELLA-SPANTON TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to certain promotions to lieutenant or sergeant in the detec- tive bureau in the city of New York PURPOSE: To provide that Police Sergeants and Lieutenants assigned to the Detec- tive Bureau and while designated as Commanders of Detective Squad be granted the titles of Sergeant Commander or Lieutenant of a Detective Squad after a certain period in that assignment. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Amends subdivision c of section 14-103 of the administrative code of the City of New York to require that any permanently appointed lieutenant or sergeant who is temporarily assigned to perform the duties of a comman- der or a supervisor of a detective squad shall be permanently appointed

SCARCELLA-SPANTON -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Cities 1 AN ACT to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to certain promotions to lieutenant or sergeant in the detec- tive bureau in the city of New York THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision c of section 14-103 of the administrative code of the city of New York, as amended by chapter 755 of the laws of 1990, is amended to read as follows: c. The commissioner may designate lieutenants as commanders of detec- tive squads, and sergeants as supervisors of detective squads, who while performing duty in such bureau and while so designated as commanders of detective squads or supervisors of detective squads shall be paid such salary as may be determined by the mayor. ANY PERSON WHO HAS RECEIVED PERMANENT APPOINTMENT AS A LIEUTENANT OR SERGEANT AND IS TEMPORARILY ASSIGNED TO PERFORM THE DUTIES OF A COMMANDER OF A DETECTIVE SQUAD OR SUPERVISOR OF A DETECTIVE SQUAD SHALL, WHENEVER SUCH ASSIGNMENT EXCEEDS EIGHTEEN MONTHS IN DURATION, BE APPOINTED AS A LIEUTENANT COMMANDER OF A DETECTIVE SQUAD OR SERGEANT SUPERVISOR OF A DETECTIVE SQUAD AND RECEIVE THE COMPENSATION ORDINARILY PAID TO PERFORM SUCH DUTIES. § 2.
