BILL NUMBER: S6172 SPONSOR: SKOUFIS TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the penal law, in relation to permitting the possession of firearms in sensitive areas for the purposes of performing historical battle reenactments PURPOSE: Permits the possession of firearms in sensitive areas for the purposes of performing historical battle reenactments. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1: amends section 265.01-e of penal law by adding individuals who are performing historical battle reenactments to the list of those exempted from carrying firearms in sensitive locations. Section 2: Sets effective date.

SKOUFIS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Codes AN ACT to amend the penal law, in relation to permitting the possession of firearms in sensitive areas for the purposes of performing histor- ical battle reenactments THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Paragraphs (i) and (j) of subdivision 3 of section 265.01-e of the penal law, as added by chapter 371 of the laws of 2022, are amended to read as follows: (i) persons lawfully engaged in hunting activity, including hunter education training; [or] (j) persons operating a program in a sensitive location out of their residence, as defined by this section, which is licensed, certified, authorized, or funded by the state or a municipality, so long as such possession is in compliance with any rules or regulations applicable to the operation of such program and use or storage of firearms; OR (K) PERSONS PERFORMING HISTORICAL BATTLE REENACTMENTS. § 2.
