 Introduced  by Sen. HARCKHAM -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
   printed to be committed to the Committee on Local Government
 
 AN ACT to amend chapter 538 of the laws of 1975 incorporating the  South
   Salem Exempt Volunteer Firemen's Benevolent Association, and providing
   for  its  powers  and duties, in relation to the purposes of the South
   Salem Exempt Volunteer Firemen's Benevolent Association; and to repeal
   certain provisions of such chapter relating thereto
 
   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section  1. Section 3 of chapter 538 of the laws of 1975 incorporating
 the South Salem Exempt Volunteer Firemen's Benevolent  Association,  and
 providing  for its powers and duties, is REPEALED and a new section 3 is
 added to read as follows:
   § 3. PURPOSES. THE PURPOSES OF SUCH CORPORATION SHALL  BE  TO  (A)  TO
 PROMOTE  FRIENDLY  ASSOCIATION  FOR THE BETTERMENT OF THE MEMBERS OF THE
 CORPORATION; (B) TO PROMOTE RELATIONS BETWEEN THE MEMBERS OF THE  CORPO-
 RATION  AND  THE LOCAL COMMUNITY; (C) TO PROVIDE RELIEF, AID AND ASSIST-
 ANCE TO THOSE MEMBERS AND THEIR FAMILIES WHO ARE  INJURED,  DISABLED  OR
 INDIGENT; (D) TO PROVIDE FOR THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE
 CORPORATION;  (E)  TO  MAINTAIN SUITABLE HEADQUARTERS FOR THE MEMBERS OF
 THE CORPORATION; (F) TO ACQUIRE REAL AND PERSONAL PROPERTY SUCH  AS  MAY
 BE  NECESSARY  FOR  THE PURPOSES SET FORTH IN THIS SECTION; (G) TO STUDY
 AND DISSEMINATE AMONG THE MEMBERS OF THE CORPORATION THE MOST  EFFICIENT
 MANNER  OF FIGHTING FIRES; AND (H) TO PROMOTE THE VOLUNTEER FIRE SERVICE
 WITHIN THE TERRITORY NOW SERVED OR WHICH MAY HEREAFTER BE SERVED BY  THE
 SOUTH SALEM FIRE DEPARTMENT, INC.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.

 AN ACT to amend chapter 538 of the laws of 1975 incorporating the  South
   Salem Exempt Volunteer Firemen's Benevolent Association, and providing
   for  its  powers  and duties, in relation to the purposes of the South
   Salem Exempt Volunteer Firemen's Benevolent Association and to foreign
   fire insurance premium taxes
 
   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section  1. Sections 3 and 7 of chapter 538 of the laws of 1975 incor-
 porating the South Salem Exempt Volunteer Firemen's  Benevolent  Associ-
 ation,  and  providing for its powers and duties, are amended to read as
 follows:
   § 3. Purposes. The purposes of such corporation shall be [the  mainte-
 nance  of  suitable  headquarters  for,  and  the promotion of fraternal
 intercourse among the members of such corporation, the relief,  aid  and
 assistance  of such members and their families who are disabled or indi-
 gent, and the promotion of the welfare of  the  volunteer  fire  service
 within the South Salem Fire District and, if any, the territory provided
 with  fire  protection  by  contract  with  such  fire district.] TO (A)
 PROMOTE FRIENDLY ASSOCIATION FOR THE BETTERMENT OF THE  MEMBERS  OF  THE
 CORPORATION; (B) PROVIDE RELIEF, AID AND ASSISTANCE TO THOSE MEMBERS AND
 THEIR  FAMILIES  WHO  ARE INJURED, DISABLED OR INDIGENT; (C) PROVIDE FOR
 THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE  CORPORATION;  (D)  MAINTAIN
 SUITABLE  HEADQUARTERS  FOR  THE MEMBERS OF THE CORPORATION; (E) PROMOTE
 AND SAFEGUARD THE WELFARE OF THE MEMBERS OF THE CORPORATION; (F) ENHANCE
 THE MORALE OF THE MEMBERS OF THE CORPORATION  BY  PROVIDING  SOCIAL  AND
 RECREATIONAL  ACTIVITIES FOR MEMBERS OF THE ASSOCIATION; AND (G) PROMOTE
