BILL NUMBER: S6805 SPONSOR: SANDERS TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the banking law, in relation to requiring licensed cash- ers of checks to file suspicious activity reports PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: This bill would require licensed check cashers to file suspicious activ- ity reports or SARs. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section 371 of the banking law, as added by chapter 151 of the laws of 1945 is amended to require that licensed check cashers file SARs (Suspi- cious Activity Reports). 2 this act shall take effect immediately. SANDERS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Banks AN ACT to amend the banking law, in relation to requiring licensed cash- ers of checks to file suspicious activity reports THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 371 of the banking law, as added by chapter 151 of the laws of 1945, is amended to read as follows: § 371. Regulations. The superintendent is hereby authorized and empowered to make such rules and regulations, and such specific rulings, demands, and findings as he OR SHE may deem necessary for the proper conduct of the business authorized and licensed under and for the enforcement of this article, in addition hereto and not inconsistent herewith. SUCH RULES, REGULATIONS, RULINGS, DEMANDS AND FINDINGS SHALL INCLUDE, BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO, REQUIRING LICENSED CASHERS OF CHECKS TO FILE SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY REPORTS. § 2.
